Misplaced Pages:HighBeam/Nav HighBeam Research is an online, subscription-based search engine for newspapers, magazines, academic journals, newswires, trade magazines and encyclopedias. The site has access to over 80 million articles from 6,500 publications, most of which are not available for free elsewhere on the internet. Thousands of new articles are added daily, archives date back over 25 years including trade journal, newspaper articles, and peer-reviewed journals covering a wide range of subjects and industries; and there are tools for finding, saving, organizing, and sharing information as documents. Aside from a free seven-day trial (credit card required), access to HighBeam costs $30 per month or $200 per year for the first year and $300 for subsequent years.

As of March 13, 2012 HighBeam has generously agreed to give free, full-access one-year accounts for Misplaced Pages editors to use, at the discretion of the community. HighBeam is excited about this and does not expect there to be a shortage of these free, one-year accounts; however, editors will have to have a one-year-old account and 1000 edits in order to qualify for one. At the end of one year, editors who found the resource useful can simply re-apply.

  1. Acabashi (talk · contribs): I have used Jstor, Project Gutenberg, and Archive.org over the past 7 years, and I believe that Highbeam would be a useful adjunct for my mainly church, place and biog (historic) article creation and additions. Thanks.
  2. MichaelQSchmidt (talk · contribs), Project Film coordinator with 49,000+ edits over 6+ years, will use highbeam archives to source articles on older films per WP:NOTTEMP. Schmidt, 06:12, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
  3. WAVY 10 Fan (talk · contribs): I have been actively editing since 2006 in multiple areas with over 6000 edits; mainly focusing on everything from sports, pop culture, media, religion among other topics while creating 44 articles. My goal with HighBeam access would be mainly to improve articles pertaining to various media articles; especially improving media articles for the Hampton Roads region. -- WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 16:47, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi WAVY 10 Fan, you don't have email enabled - could you either do so or email me directly? Nikkimaria (talk) 15:45, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
  4. RashersTierney (talk · contribs): Interested particularly in Ireland and Romani-related topics. Would like to renew to check references, especially archived articles from the Irish Times ('paper of record') which is subscription. RashersTierney (talk) 21:10, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
  5. Smerus (talk · contribs) - can I renew please (after a gap)? I mainly edit articles dealing with music, history, and countries of the former Soviet Union.--Smerus (talk) 18:26, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
  6. Matty.007 (talk · contribs): I am a fairly regular creator of articles, some historical ones, some more recent ones. I feel that both these needs would be satisfied by using HighBeam (as an aside, can this get The Times?). Thanks, Matty.007 16:48, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
  7. Carlstak (talk · contribs) I've made over 6,000 edits since August 2011 and have created about 15 articles, including some quite long ones, on historical subjects and biographies. I am especially interested in Spanish subjects, and in translating articles from the Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese Wikipedias. I also spend much time adding quality sources to articles. Highbeam's resources would be very useful to my research. Carlstak (talk) 00:16, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
  8. Oceanflynn (talk · contribs): I've made 6925 edits in 5 projects since 2006. I often contribute to articles related to Canada, including Canadian history, First Nations, human geography, physical geography, etc. I created articles such as Caribou and Boreal woodland caribou in 2013. (There was an attempt at creating an article entitled caribou, years ago but it had been merged with Reindeer which then became overburdened with North American content. The article I created included much content, some new images and many new references with inline citations.) Because of paywalls. etc, I am often unable to access robust online references that would be invaluable in a Misplaced Pages article to which I am contributing. My academic background includes graduate studies and sessional lecturing in the Social Sciences. Highbeam was recommended to me by Dianna (talk · contribs). oceanflynn 19:24, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
  9. Mion (talk · contribs) - Editor since 2005, 17 k edits, article creation, updating and fact checking mainly, dentistry and energy related articles.
  10. MrLinkinPark333 (talk · contribs) - I edit articles across the board, whether it interests me or not. Highbeam would be useful to me when locating sources for articles that are nominated for deletion. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 21:23, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
  11. PresN (talk · contribs) - 33000+ edits since 2006, active in video games and literary awards, will use highbeam to look up articles in newspapers, newswires, and magazines for content creation/improvement in those areas. --PresN 21:25, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
  12. Kaldari (talk · contribs): ~50,000 edits over 10+ years. I work a lot on history-related articles and a Highbeam account would be extremely useful for digging up obscure sources. Kaldari (talk) 22:32, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
  13. Geo Swan (talk · contribs): I have been active on the wikipedia for almost ten years, and I have started over 2,000 articles, on a wide variety of topics. If I am granted access to high-beam I'll start by going through those 2,000 articles, and bringing all references to high-beamed versions of articles up to current citation standards. Geo Swan (talk) 23:43, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
  14. Sturmvogel_66 (talk · contribs) Former MilHist coordinator, editor since 2006, over 300 GAs and 50 featured articles and lists. I would like access to fill out my articles on ships, battles, and airplanes.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 01:36, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
  15. Technical 13 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I'm fairly well known as a templateFu/JavaScript guy, but I also spend a fair amount of time reviewing AfC drafts and being able to save some of the drafts I come across that are short a reference here or there using this resource would be a great benefit to the project. — {{U|Technical 13}} 03:56, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
