Elaine is a character in Arthurian Legend. Her name (a form of Helen) is actually the name of a couple of different people. Two of them had to do with Lancelot. The first was a daughter of Bernard of Astolat and was nicknamed Elaine the White. She fell in love with Lancelot and soon died of love for him becoming the famous Lady of Shalott. The second was the daughter of Pelles. He tricked Lancelot into sleeping with her and he did again thinking she was Guinevere. Elaine later had Galahad as a result. Ironically, the French say that Lancelot's mother was named Elaine.

There is also a daughter of Igraine named Elaine, a sister of Morgause and a half-sister of King Arthur. Arthur also has a niece named Elaine who fell in love with Perceval.
