Sochitta Sal (born October 22, 1992), who records under the name Honey Cocaine, is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter.
Early life
Honey was born in Cambodia on October 22, 1992, and was raised in Toronto, Ontario. She is of Cambodian descent, and was the only daughter born of seven children. Born in a household that primarily spoke Khmer, she learned English through watching 106 & Park. One of the first rappers she ever heard was Tupac. Although she didn't know much English during her childhood, she felt a connection between his music and her life growing up. She began writing poetry at the age of 6, and then at age 11, she started hitting the studio. She created the stagename "Honey Cocaine" as her metaphor, meaning "sweet and addicting music". "Honey is the filling inside", while "Cocaine is the raw outside", in reference to both the drug, and to the way most people view and feel about "real hip-hop."
Career
Honey Cocaine was discovered by Tyga after making a YouTube video of herself doing a freestyle rap to one of his songs called Rack City. Tyga then signed her to his record label, Last Kings Entertainment. Shortly afterwards, she began to receive recognition with her debut collaboration "Heisman", featuring Tyga.
In early March 2012, she was shot while riding in a van, shortly after she and Tyga performed at a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Honey Cocaine, Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they drove away from the venue, which soon opened fire on their vehicle. However, a bullet only grazed her right arm, and she was treated and shortly released from the hospital.
In late 2012, she featured on Tyga's Well Done 3 mixtape, which is the third installment of his Well Done series.
