The Suzuki Splash is a city car, introduced to the market in 2008 . It was jointly developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and Adam Opel AG — which market their version under the name of Agila. Its debut as a concept car took place in 2006 Paris Auto Show and also at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. The Splash is located below the Swift in the European market lineup, and uses a shortened wheelbase version of the Suzuki Swift's chassis. In the Japanese market lineup, however, the car is situated between the Swift and the Solio.
The model was launched with two versions of petrol engines, a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre and 4-cylinder 1.2-litre Family 0, and a 4-cylinder version of Fiat's MultiJet diesel engine. Unlike its predecessor, the Wagon R+, the Splash has five seats as standard.
It was introduced to the Japanese market on 20 October 2008, available as the Splash 1.2 for ¥1,239,000 and was rebadged in the Uk as a Vauxhall Agila. The model also reached the German market, but was rebranded under the name Opel as the Opel Agila. Maruti Suzuki released the Splash in India as Maruti Suzuki Ritz. In China, it was released by Changhe Suzuki towards the end of 2010. The Splash also went on sale in New Zealand in 2011. This multi-continental interest reflects the popularity Suzuki's small cars have had in recent years.

The European market is divided into segments: compact cars with front wheel drive being the relevant category. (The Swift meets this criteria) (second generation, ZC # system). The Splash's body size, in comparison with the Swift is smaller; even more so than the Takashi Tamotsu, also 30 mm the wheelbase is shorter 2,360 mm. The engine cylinder in the 3 series (K10B type) 1000 cc is a petrol engine, a four-cylinder (K12B type) 1200 cc which is the series made by Fiat 1300 cc and is available with a four-cylinder direct-injection diesel multi-jet engine, 5 MT or 4 AT and with various other combinations of the prestated.
In 2008 Suzuki, under the management of General Motors, a U.S-based company (GM) has equity participation, the splash from GM related to its subsidiary in the European OEM has been supplied. Opel provided the "Agila" model in two generations (the first model 'Wagon R +' was the sister car). The Suzuki world strategy consisted of two stages: regarded as the original vehicle type; the sport made by India manufaced and sold by Suzuki in India. The future of manufacture and sales of this model will take place in China.
India: Maruti Suzuki
In the Indian auto market, the Suzuki Splash was renamed as the 'Maruti Suzuki Ritz'. Maruti Suzuki changed its name because the name “Splash” was already registered by Ford. This car has been yet another success for Maruti, with more than 200,000 Ritz on Indian roads within the first 37months of release, all this without the support of any sort of advertisement campaign. The Ritz now competes with the Hyundai I10, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, VW Polo, Tata Indica, Fiat Punto, Skoda Fabia and even her own sibling, the Suzuki Swift.
In India the Maruti Ritz is available in ten specifications, five with a range of petrol and diesel engine options, the petrol variants powered by the company’s popular 1.2L, 1197 cc, K12M KB series petrol engine. The light weight all-aluminum K12M engine delivers 85 PS (63 kW; 84 hp) a maximum power at 6000 rpm with 113 N⋅m (83 lb⋅ft) of maximum torque 4000 rpm. The mileage it delivers on city roads is around 14.5kmpl, and 18kmpl on highways.
The diesel variants of Maruti Ritz are powered by Fiat’s 1.3L Multijet diesel engine. The 1.3L, 1248 cc. DDiS diesel engines are well known for excellent fuel efficiency and performance. This engine delivers 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp) at a maximum power of 4000 rpm with 190 N⋅m (140 lb⋅ft) a maximum torque of 2000 rpm. The mileage it delivers is 17.7 kmpl in the city and on the highway: 21kmpl. Whilst the petrol 1.2 engine (also used in the Swift & DZire) seems comparatively underpowered, having stats of 85 PS (63 kW; 84 hp) .
A new version of Ritz was launched in India in mid-2012.This version sports a new ZDI variant, 3 new colours and improved fuel efficiency.
