== Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants ==

Hello. Full disclosure: I work for Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants in their marketing department. We would like to request an article for creation about the Toronto-based company and its founders, Peter Oliver and MasterChef Canada judge Michael Bonacini. We happy to provide a wide variety of sources (newspaper articles, magazine features, etc.) to the writer. A key player in Toronto's food and beverage culture, O&B owns and operates 12 restaurants in Ontario as well as a handful of event spaces, with plans for continued growth.

Project banner

On the project page, we are told to use the |toronto= parameter using WP Canada's banner. If this is correct, why does this banner exist? Griffinofwales (talk) Simple English Misplaced Pages - Come and join! 01:19, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

The WikiProject Toronto banner was used before the |toronto= parameter was implemented. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:20, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
I have deleted the template because it's been 7 days after it was tagged. Could you replace the templates (now it's redlinked) with the new parameter? See this for the list of pages it was on. --Bsadowski1 00:53, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
The banner is now a redirect. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:14, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Hello there we have been talking about this at Template talk:WikiProject Canada#Removal of sub project templates. We seem to have a bit of a problem. The original Toronto template should not have been deleted until the conversion was done. You will see at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Canada/Assessment#Use of WikiProject Canada banner that not all of the sub templates and there corresponding pages have been converted yet. Not sure how the original TO template got deleted without taking into account it would leave a red template link (I would guess this was a small oversight that now leaves the project minus 6000+ pages). We should reinstate the old template ASAP so the projects gets its pages back and assessments are not lost (hope it not to late). The deletion of the template would/should only take place after an appropriate substitution is found and implemented - we should never blank out a projects tracking system without a new one in its place. Would also like to point out that the relevant projects were never notified of the deletion request, thus the projects was not able to voice its concerns about this happening. Moxy (talk) 00:41, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Old banner reinstated/restored with history intact. --Bsadowski1 00:53, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Done Wow very nice - Thank you for this fast action Bsadowski1. I believe we have had many pages were the old template has been replaced - anyone know if the assessments were carried over or should we be doing a mass revert of those edits to get back assessments? As projects assessments is more important then the right banner. Moxy (talk) 00:59, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
A while back I found some historical figures that had a Toronto template and no Canada template. For each of them I replaced the Toronto one with the Canada one and copied Toronto's assessment when it existed. If someone were to do a mass replacement of this template with the Canada template, they would have to make sure to do the same. It shouldn't be too hard to program: replace {{WikiProject Toronto|class=X |importance=Y}} with {{WikiProject Canada|class=X |toronto=yes |toronto-importance=Y}}. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 00:32, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Good. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:21, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Update

All uses of the Toronto banner have been replaced. Does anyone object to it being deleted now? —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 23:40, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

No objections. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 16:40, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Hold off. There is some discussion at WP:CANTALK about implementing a separate banner for WP:OKANAGAN, even for Canada-related articles. If that's the case, I believe we should maintain this banner and start using it.--Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:57, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead with deletion - all there is - is the same IP for years that has complaimed. I don't understand thoses that dont even participate or maintaine projects talking up a storm.Moxy (talk) 20:31, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
I seem to have offended Moxy somehow. My view is that we should be looking to establish a separate banner. If all banners for WPCANADA are not consolidated, then in my opinion this project could benefit from the exposure of having its own banner. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:28, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Tasty 168

Hey, a new user recently created Tasty 168, about a chain of bubble tea shops that was founded in Toronto. It was flagged for speedy deletion, but I'm not sure it deserved it. I thought someone here might have a better sense than me about whether or not the chain meets WP:CORP and what the best sources are about it. I'll keep looking on my own as well, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Meelar (talk) 20:09, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

It needs much more information stating its significance. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Luminato

In full disclosure, this is a note from a Luminato staff member, in reference to the below comment posted in 2009, as well as to edits required to the current Luminato Misplaced Pages entry. To the best of my knowledge, the original entry was not created by a Luminato staff member; Luminato, the organization, would prefer if some of the staff directory/advisory committee information was removed.

Luminato, would like to see a note about each year's Festival maintained in the entry, as well as an inclusion of the following year's Festival dates. Currently, an entry about the 2011 Festival (June 10-19, 2011) is missing, as are the 2012 Festival dates: June 8-17, 2012. Additionally, the Luminato staff listings that likely should remain in the entry involve Janice Price (Luminato's CEO) and Chris Lorway (Luminato's former Artistic Director). A note should be added to the current entry that Chris Lorway left his position at Luminato as of July 2011 to work with Lord Cultural Resources in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Luminato is currently searching for a new Artisitic Director to join the organization in the Fall of 2011. --70.52.121.214 (talk) 16:35, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Allison Saretsky, Interactive Marketing Manager, Luminato August 17, 2011

No need to double post here and at the article. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:43, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
We do not allow conflict of interest. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:22, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Luminato is aware of Misplaced Pages's conflict of interest policy involving for- and not-for-profit organizations. We agree with suggestions that the current Luminato entry requires an update and clean-up; our organization will not interfere with updates and are looking to the Toronto WikiProject group for assistance. -- Allison Saretsky, Interactive Marketing Manager, Luminato. 11:22, 15 September 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.52.121.214 (talk)

Toronto area photo requests

Hi! I have some photo requests in the Toronto area. Would anyone mind taking some photos for articles?

Within Toronto:

Toronto suburbs:

WhisperToMe (talk) 23:34, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Scope and the suburbs

I looked at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Toronto#Scope_includes_Markham.3F - It seems odd to include the cities themselves, but not their contents. Usually metro-area projects include the things associated with the suburbs too. For instance it's common for major corporations and groups of people to move outside of the core/main city and into the suburbs, but they are still heavily associated with the core city. Articles about places and things about suburbs generally need the attention from the same pool editors who edit articles about places and things in the city limits. Because Toronto is not immensely large, population wise (2,503,281), like New York City is (8 million) and all of its suburbs are in the same territory, the Toronto project should also focus upon not only the municipalities, but also the things within. To compare, the main USA projects (except for New York City and Washington DC) cover the suburbs and everything inside. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:01, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

That can be done. An alternative is to create WikiProject 905. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:16, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Another way is to expand the scope of the existing project. For Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Houston we did not even have to change the name of the project. We just agreed "let's cover the whole metro area." In the minds of the general public they think of the suburbs as being a part of "Houston" anyway. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:30, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Transit Task Force?

Would anyone be interested in starting a Toronto transit task force? By separating article into smaller task forces with those who are interested in certain Toronto related projects I believe we can improve many more articles in a more efficient manner. Tarret 19:12, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree that there should be a transit task force. However, I am not interested in initiating it at the moment. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:01, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

WP Toronto in the Signpost

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Toronto for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 01:51, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Toronto will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Toronto's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Misplaced Pages (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:25, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Kennedy Commons Mall, York Mills Gardens, Chartwell Shopping Centre

Which categories on "List of malls in Toronto" would Kennedy Commons Mall (Kennedy Rd/Hwy 401/Progress Ave) and York Mills Gardens (Leslie St/York Mills Rd) Chartwell Shopping Centre (Brimley Rd south of Huntingwood Dr) be placed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.237.244.218 (talk) 05:00, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

  6. Eat it
  7. Upload the photo to commons

This does not belong to this WikiProject, since they are also commonly found well outside of Toronto's sphere of influence. Please post it in the Food WikiProject or the Italy WikiProject instead. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:46, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Johnny, with due respect, that makes no sense to me. Posting here provides the best chance of getting the image. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:51, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I know. I posted this to show that though you can get a quicker response here, they are more relevant in the Food and Italy WikiProjects. If that were the case, then the Panzerotti article should be given the WikiProject Toronto tag in its talk page (and eventually, it may become clogged with various WikiProjects of various North American cities with large Italian populations). Design Exchange museum - changed focus & exhibition strategy

Good morning, In full disclosure, I am an employee of the Design Exchange museum in Toronto, ON, Canada. We've noted that the Misplaced Pages page entry for the museum was nominated for deletion in August 2012 and we're glad that's not the case - very glad. In fact, the museum has embarked on a new plan and focus as a design museum, which brings exciting, groundbreaking exhibitions and shows from around the world and Canada.

The new positioning statement for the museum is below. We understand and respect that the organization itself does not adjust or edit the Design Museum's Misplaced Pages entry; should there ever be an opportunity by the Commons / Wiki Editors to update the Design Museum's entry here, this would be much appreicated - as it reflects the museum's new focus.

"As of March, 2012 the Design Exchange has taken a revitalized strategic direction and refined mandate - to promote the relevancy and experience of design to as large a number of people as possible, the DX will now be exclusively a Design Museum. Covering off the various design disciplines including fashion, architecture, interior and industrial design, digital design and more, exhibitions and programming will explore designers, products, projects or themes that have broad public appeal and reflect popular contemporary culture. Newly appointed President, Shauna Levy, leads this new direction offering renowned traveling exhibits from prestigious cultural institutions across the globe, a new city-wide cultural component, a greater focus on educational experiences for the public, including youth and adults, and a rollout of programming that will extend across the country."

Referring to Toronto subway lines

Some editors are replacing Toronto subway lines anmes with their numbers in the text of various articles. there have been two proposals to rename the subway line articles; both were rejected. See Talk:Yonge–University–Spadina line.

The TTC is using both the line number and the line name on their Subway/RT page. TTC information makes it clear that they are adding numbers to the names, not phasing out the names. At the end of this video, Chris Uphold of the TTC says this unambiguously. And this news release says: "Subway lines are not being renamed; rather, applying line numbers and colours already in use to existing line names...."

Replacing the descriptive name with the undescriptive number does not improve the clarity of the article. I am inviting other editors to dsicuss this to try to stop the edit war. I propose to add the following to the project page:

To improve clarity of the information for readers, TTC subway lines should be identifed by their descriptive names (e.g., Yonge-University-Spadina; Bloor-Danforth) or by their numbers and names (e.g., Line 1, Yonge-University-Spadina; Line 2, Bloor-Danforth), but not by their numbers alone.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Misplaced Pages struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Scotiabank Theatre

Hello. I would first like to point out that I am not from, nor do I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, however I do live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Anyway, as I was recently browsing, I came across a page (as seen in the link in the title above) that is in need of updates but which has been labeled within the scope of WikiProject Toronto. According to the page's edit history, it was only created as of this year. Given the fact that Scotiabank Theatre is a brand within Cineplex Entertainment, I would think it would be wise to consult the adminstrating editors of that company's page regarding this matter, but in terms of bringing it to your attention, I felt that I should inform you that this Scotiabank Theatre page is presented as though it were exclusive, when in actuality, it stands as merely one of eight locations across the country under the Scotiabank Theatre brand. Therefore, I feel it is advisable to either rename the page Scotiabank Theatre Toronto to more aptly describe the location while maintaining the page's exclusive nature, or pass off the page to the administrating editors of the Cineplex Entertainment page, or work in consultation with said editors to ensure that the page is revamped to incorporate information regarding the other seven Scotiabank Theatre locations in Canada (namely Vancouver, Edmonton, Chinook, Saskatoon, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's). Thank you.  Snake Chess5 06:54, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

That should be done, once we get a consensus. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:36, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Makes sense to me, but are the other theatres sharing the name notable themselves in any way? Given that the existing article is only stub-tier, it may be better to simply expand it out to cover the other locations as well instead of moving it to Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. // coldacid (talk|contrib) 02:58, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

March 2015 Art+Feminism event in Toronto

Hi Toronto Wikipedians! I am reaching out to see if anyone in Toronto would be interested in helping out with editing training for a Misplaced Pages:Meetup/ArtAndFeminism edit-a-thon taking place at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto on Sunday March 8th. We would appreciate any assistance in securing at least one experienced Wikipedian in the Toronto area, and I'd be happy to put you in touch with the organizers if you are able to help out. More information about the Toronto event can also be found here. If interested, please reply on wiki or by e-mail at thepwnco.wiki@gmail.com. Cheers! -Thepwnco (talk) 22:24, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Photos request

Hello Torotono, soon will be the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. For this i am trying to generate a list of all related memorials. Two of them are located in Toronto (this and this). I would really appreciate if some photographer from Toronto could make photos of them and upload them to Commons. At best it should be several photos of the object from different angles including from the backside and also possible details like plaques, inscription etc. Thank you very much in advance, --Aschroet (talk) 07:02, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Misplaced Pages articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Misplaced Pages, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!
