Help:Cite errors/Cite error references missing key
In the article, List of Attorneys General of West Virginia, all my inline citations are properly formatted and now all of a sudden, without any edits, I now have 8 cite errors appearing in the article. Has a change been made to a template that is causing this issue? Any assistance that could be provided would be of the greatest help! -- West Virginian (talk) 00:54, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- You made extensive additions to the article on 30 May 2015. In displaying the history, the 23 May 2015 version, which is shorter and does not have the text that you added, does not have the cite errors. The 30 May 2015 version does have the cite errors. Did it have the cite errors when you edited it on 30 May, or is that new? If that is new, it is (as you suggest) likely that a template has been changed. Yes, DES, you are right and I was mistaken (sigh). Bazzie Awards
why is there zero information about the Bazzie Awards that bas rutten hands out each year ? it is like an award show for best KO of the year etc.... and I cant request someone write it either — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.210.235.116 (talk) 08:46, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Is there significant, independent coverage from reliable sources about the award? If not, then it's not notable enough. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:31, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Creation of article
Hi I am banned from creating any BLP according to a January 2015 consensus. Can I make an article about a case, where a man lived with the skeleton of his sister and his dead dogs? His name is Partha De. I dont want to name the article as Partha De to make it a BLP, can I make it "Partha De case" ? The details can be found here and here amongst others. RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 09:54, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Probably not, because this case is probably not notable (especially if the Daily Mail is one of the best sources about it), and if it includes text about living people that would probably violate the "not writing BLPs". Joseph2302 (talk) 11:01, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Disput on the Dulaman page
I have editted wikipedia on and off for years. Recently I editted the Dulaman page - the Irish language work song about seaweed - to add a summary of the story of the lyrics.
This was reverted by user:DissidentAggressor. I thought my edit had made the article better so I engaged this user on his talk page User_talk:DissidentAggressor#changes_to_Dúlamán. I reviewed the policy pages and showed, I believe, that my changes complied with policy.
I went back and editted the page again, as we discussed, and got reverted again and warned [[User_talk:Filceolaire#June_2015
]] I feel biten, twice. There may be problems with my edits but I think they are clearly trying to make the article better. i think they clearly do make the article better.
Can someone else have a look at this as I am feeling furious and don't trust myself to be civil. Is this really the way good faith editors are meant to be treated? Is this the right forum? filceolaire (talk) 10:35, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- The other editor has tried to explain to you why he or she thinks that the additions are against Misplaced Pages policy. If you read the other editor's comments and still think that your edits will improve the article, read the dispute resolution policy. Then follow one of the procedures recommended in that policy for a content dispute. This case might in particular be appropriate for requesting a third opinion. Edit page title to correct. "London chessboxing" should read "London Chessboxing".
Hi
I've just set up a page for London Chessboxing but the page was created with incorrect capitalisation of the work "Chessboxing". Presently it ready "London chessboxing"; however, "London Chessboxing" is a proper noun and both words should be with a capital letter. Please see London Chessboxing website here: http://londonchessboxing.com/ for more information on the brand.
Please can you get this amended or let me know how I can do this as it hasn't been obvious from my searches.
Many thanks

- The way to do that is to move the page. The move button is in the drop down menu titled "more" up at the top by the history button. However, the page is currently marked for deletion as being overly promotional. I've added some clean-up templates to show you some of the issues in the article, if you can take a look before its deleted. ~ ONUnicornproblem solving 14:44, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Actually London Chessboxing (the capitalisation appears to have been changed) is under deletion review for lack of notability, not for being promotional. The single sentence that's been the whole of the article's content since its creation is a simple statement of fact. Rojomoke (talk) 17:24, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Gjapaterson:, @Rojomoke: London chessboxing was a different and longer article on the same topic. I tagged it for speedy deletion as promotional, and Reaper Eternal deleted it. (It included such text as "London Chessboxing's unique event style provides an electric atmosphere for both the chess and boxing elements whilst still making the chess accessible to a chess novice.".) It was unreferenced. London Chessboxing is tagged as not clearly establishing notability, but is not under any sort of deletion procedure at this time. I now suspect that between the info in the deleted version, and what could be found by a proper search, a reasonable class-C article could be written, but I'm not sure. But since the deleted version was unsourced, it might be better to just start with what can be gleaned from proper sources, if anyone wants to work on London Chessboxing . - @Rogervaughan: Yes! As long as he is willing to license them under a free license that allows anyone to use the images for any reason, including their own commercial interests. He cannot be more restrictive than that (i.e. saying that they can be used on Misplaced Pages only, or for educational/non-commercial use only, etc.) Please see this page regarding how he can send permission to donate his images to Misplaced Pages. --Nick—/Contribs 19:52, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- I just want to clarify that when we say "the pictures belong to Victor", we mean "Victor took the photographs", not "Victor owns the photographs and/or prints of those photographs and/or film/files from which they are printed". If Victor did not take the photographs, then the copyright belongs to the photographer in 99.98% of cases. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:54, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Hyperlinks No Longer Appearing Dark Blue
I'm not sure what has happened, but wikipedia hyperlinks I have visited have stopped appearing dark blue--they appear as though I have not visited them before.
My browser is firefox.
When I visit a site within Misplaced Pages right now, the link will turn dark blue and remain that color, but for some reason it will not do so for previously visited sites. This seems to be a wikipedia related issue--when I google the wikipedia websites I had visited in the past, they do appear dark blue in the google results. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorsey4Heisman (talk • contribs) 01:48, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- This is probably related to WP forcing HTTPS connections. WP has been changed to using HTTPS instead of HTTP recently. Your browser will most likely class this as a completely different website. https://en.wikipedia.org/Florynce_Kennedy
Dear Wiki Editorial volunteers, My name is Scott Foster and I live in Honolulu Hawaii. I have worked in the communications field for over 40 years and my credentials may be verified at <https://aboutscottfoster.wordpress.com/>. I am writing regarding <https://en.wikipedia.org/Florynce_Kennedy>, a Wiki page about my longtime friend Faye Kennedy Daly’s late sister, Florynce "Flo" Kennedy. Her name and work are known internationally in certain circles of the Women's movement.
Faye Kennedy Daly also resides in Honolulu. Faye Kennedy Daly is 84 (4/3/31) and her sister Joy Kennedy-Banks is 88 (12/26/26). Joy is in declining health and currently lives in her home in East Orange New Jersey 07017. However, Joy may soon be moved to Honolulu in order for Faye to care for her.
As I understand it, the Wiki page about their late sister, Florynce "Flo" Kennedy was authored by a Mr. Steve Kropper <https://en.wikipedia.org/Steven_Kropper>.
Mr. Kropper is known to Faye Kennedy who sent me the following statement:
“Mr. Steve Kropper became known to me in May 2014, after I learned that he was contacting various people across the country, including Hawaii, seeking their participation in a centennial birthday 'celebration' for my late sister Florynce Kennedy. He did this without contacting either me or my sister. The date of his proposed ‘centennial celebration’ would be February 11, 2016. When Mr. Kropper and I were subsequently in contact (via a Baltimore friend), I learned that Mr. Kropper wanted to pursue numerous other events in Flo’s name, essentially making her into a cottage industry. Prior to Florynce’s death, none of her friends had ever heard of Mr. Kropper. He also planned to have a paid board of directors of his choosing and did not invite me to be on that board. I told him that my sister and I opposed all of his plans and asked him to cease and desist in anything involving Florynce."
Two things of note have since occurred:
1) On April 7, 2015, Faye asked me to make the following edits to <https://en.wikipedia.org/Florynce_Kennedy> which were immediately reverted to the original. Please note that the name of the two surviving sisters are not even mentioned.
WIKI EDITS AS MADE AND REVERSED Photo Cover photo of Florynce “Flo" Kennedy’s 1976 autobiography, “Color Me Flo: My Hard Life and Good Times.” Photo credit Patrick Daly .
Early life The New York media dubbed the sisters, “the Black Brontes” and “the Other Kennedys” when all had books published in 1976.
Later life and death Florynce “Flo" Kennedy’s legacy lives on in her youngest sister, Faye Kennedy of Honolulu and Joy Kennedy-Banks of East Orange, New Jersey.
Flo’s threatened national boycott of Hawaii during her visits after sister Faye retired there led to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday’s belated adoption in the island state in 1989 — three years after the federal holiday became law (1986). Faye’s own rise to political prominence and national honors accelerated during this period. The Hawaii MLK parade continues to be one of the largest and most diverse in the nation.
After Flo’s passing, her sister Joy, a former model, songwriter and civic leader was very involved in protecting Flo’s legacy. Faye Kennedy now administers Joy’s power of attorney because of her sister’s advanced age and frail health. The two financially secure sisters oppose any efforts to use Flo’s name without Faye’s written authorization. For more information, please contact: <removed>
END OUR ATTEMPTED WIKI EDITS
2) Faye Kennedy Daly asked me to create a Web site where the sisters could have complete control and that is now on line at <http://flokennedy.net/> and we have posted several family photos and other relevant content which we would like to see added to <https://en.wikipedia.org/Florynce_Kennedy>. We would also want to add the link to Harvard University’s Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America <https://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/schlesinger-library> where Florynce’s papers are archived.
In addition to the above draft edits which were made and then reverted, we would also like to add more information such as the link to <http://flokennedy.net/> and <https://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/schlesinger-library>. We have no intention of getting into a "pissing match" with Mr. Kropper and I am writing you directly to ask for your guidance on how to proceed. We await your kind response and guidance.
Sincerely, Scott Foster for Faye Kennedy Daly <removed>

- @Fosters005: The Florynce Kennedy page was originated by User:Julia528, and as nearly as I can tell Steven Kropper (who appears to be User:Skropper) had no part in writing it. Your edit was reverted by User:Beyond My Ken; a good first step would be to discuss the changes you want with him/her at User talk:Beyond My Ken.
- My reaction to your additions: One of your additions was sourced to a telephone interview, which is unacceptable; content must be sourced to published reliable sources. Your other additions were completely unsourced. Your claim about power of attorney has no place in an encyclopedia. Any photos you want to put on Misplaced Pages must be licensed under a free license, i.e. one that allow anyone to reuse the photo anywhere for anything.
- Your contact information has been removed because we do not reply via mail, email, or telephone. —teb728 t c 07:13, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. Ammeerah (talk) 05:56, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Ammeerah: Please read Misplaced Pages:Your first article. Important things to keep in mind include: The article must be written from a neutral point of view. And the notability of the subject must be demonstrated by references to significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject.
- The article does not need the permission of the subject: it is not his article but Misplaced Pages’s article about him. Likewise the photo does not need the permission of the subject, but it does need the permission of the photographer for anyone to use the photo anywhere (not just Misplaced Pages) for anything.

If this is as common as I believe, or even if it is relatively rare, isn't that a direct violation of our duty to focus on content and not people? Say this person was evading a block or something and that comes out and they get banned. Ok, sure. But their claims should not be dismissed. They should still be evaluated and if appropriate, action should be taken. To use an analogy, if a criminal reports a crime, the police arrest both of them. They don't let the person who was being reported go because they were reported by a criminal. If you agree, then how can that be enforced or changed? Who 'watches the watchers' in this regard? Full disclosure: I was recently involved in something like this but this is not about that at all. I would really appreciate if nobody discusses that and we focus on what I've said rather than focusing on me personally (...). Handpolk (talk) 11:08, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

How can I avoid being redirected to the HTTPS ("secure") site?
Since a few days, Misplaced Pages has seemingly decided to redirect all access to HTTPS only (until recently, it used to be the case that Misplaced Pages was accessible over HTTP or HTTPS transports, but with no obligation to use the one or the other). Now I would very much like to avoid HTTPS: is there some way to do this? There used to be a setting to that effect in the per-user preferences, but it appears to be gone (or I can't find it). Is there still a way? --Gro-Tsen (talk) 18:21, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Deleting Page Histories
Fly Guy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
How would I go about getting the history of a page (or a whole page) deleted? The reason I ask is because I moved an article I created over to Fly Guy and it's caused a problem where The page isn't registered here, a page I use to track the articles I've created. Needless to say, I now know what "Deleted to make way for move" means.
Americanfreedom (talk) 02:47, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- What you have done is taken a page which was originally an article about a character from the Mario video game series, subsequently turned into a redirect, and changed it into an article on another subject entirely. This isn't at all appropriate, and should probably be reverted. Articles are about specific subjects, not things sharing the same name, and you can't just substitute a new topic for an old one like that. AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:19, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- The Mario character article was changed to a redirect in 2006. If the old subject isn't notable enough for its own article then it seems OK to change the redirect into an article about another subject. I don't see reason to mess with the page history just to get the author of the current content listed as the first contributor. I don't know whether deleting the older versions would actually affect the tool you use. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:01, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Recycle 4 Egypt - page is accepted or not
Hello
I just created this page and I really dont know if is accepted or not.
I researched on deletion logs, and no joy..
Please could you assist?
thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Recycle 4 Egypt (talk • contribs) 13:23, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Recycle 4 Egypt, I assume you refer to User:Recycle 4 Egypt. That hasn't ben deleted, yet, but it is not appropriate as a user page, and should either be delted or moved into the Draft: namespace to be developed into a proper article, if notability can be established. It would need extensive work to be a proper article. DES 13:59, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Recycle 4 Egypt: I have moved the page to Draft:Recycle 4 Egypt and added a tag so you can press the green button to place it in line for review. However, right now it completely fails all of our content polices and will be rejected (if not deleted). It will need to be re-written to establish that it has received notice and coverage from people not connected with it and re-written as in the tone of an encyclopedia article about a subject and not as if Misplaced Pages were providing a free webhost advertisement for the subject. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:46, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Translation to English
I have an article on an Danish artist named Mogens Ege. The article is in Danish ( I think). How do I or is it possible to translate this short article into English. The article is displayed currently on de.wikipedia.org/wik/Mogens Ege. Thanks 2605:E000:1C05:40EB:D42C:FB0E:FBB1:F117 (talk) 15:26, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- The right link is https://de.wikipedia.org/Mogens_Ege, or de:Mogens Ege as a wikilink.
de
is German (Deutsch) and the article is in German. There are currently no other Misplaced Pages languages with an article about the person. See Misplaced Pages:Translation if you want to create a translation. I suggest you create an account but you can use Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation without it. If you just want something readable for yourself then try entering the url in Google Translate at https://translate.google.com/. This will give a machine translation which is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:45, 14 June 2015 (UTC) - Note that Misplaced Pages languages may have different requirements and an English article should satisfy Misplaced Pages:Notability (people). PrimeHunter (talk) 15:49, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Also, the article is actually in German, not Danish
(.de= Deutschland= Germany).Joseph2302 (talk) 15:53, 14 June 2015 (UTC)- a quick look at google books leads me to the impression that there were 2 Mogens Ege - one a painter in the first half of the 1900s and the other involved in publishing in the mid to late 1900s. The German article is rather sparse in its sourcing I am not easily finding significant coverage about either.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 16:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

- @Joseph2302: Just some nitpicking: In de.wikipedia.org, the de doesn't stand for Deutschland=Germany as in the .de top-level domain, but rather for Deutsch=German (language), the ISO 639-1 code for the language. For de.wikipedia.org is the German-language Misplaced Pages, not the Misplaced Pages of Germany ;-) - that's a distinction quite important for people like me, coming from German-speaking countries other than Germany (I'm from the German-speaking part of Switzerland). Sometimes, we can be quite irritated when people treat the German-language Misplaced Pages as "Germany's Misplaced Pages"... Gestumblindi (talk) 18:33, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- My apologies, I've struck the incorrect information. I guess it's the same as .en meaning English language, which includes British, American, South African, Australian varieties. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:46, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Exactly. German is a language spoken in Germany, which is a country, and in other countries. English is a language spoken in England, which is a constituent country, and in other countries. Spanish is a language spoken in Spain and in other countries. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:05, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Looking for a "tool" to improve references
OK, so it turns out that ReFill only works to "fill in parameters" on bare url refs.
Is there another tool, like ReFill, that can be used to fill in just missing parameters from references that already use, say, the {{Cite web}} template?... I've found an article, Murder of Adrianne Reynolds, where such a tool would be really useful, as the refs on the article in question really only need all of the 'title=' parameters filled in. Thanks in advance! --IJBall (contribs • talk) 19:10, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I use Misplaced Pages:RefToolbar, which can be enabled in the Editing section of Gadgets in your Preferences. Great little tool. RegistryKey 00:08, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, but unless I'm missing something, RefToolbar only automatically loads the citation templates for you, but it doesn't "find" missing parameters like ReFill does. I think Citation expander is supposed to be able to do that, but it looks like Citation bot is down right now. However, the WP:CITETOOLs page looks to be a useful page for this kind of thing – WebRef may be able to do what I'm looking for, so I may give that a shot... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 00:39, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- OK, WebRef doesn't "auto-fill" in reference parameters either (it only grabs parameters one reference at a time, and you still have to either add the reference manually, or insert the missing parameters manually). So it's Citation expander, or bust, at this point. If Citation expander doesn't do it either, it looks like this exposes a gap in the current set of Ref Tools – it seems that something that functions like ReFill, but that works on references that have already been "templated" but with only partially-filled in parameters, may be needed... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 01:06, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Inserting a photo
I'm ready to insert the photo for my draft article on a famous geneticist, but don't know how. Please help. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dave Truesdale (talk • contribs) 23:37, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I see you have inserted a photo in Draft:Bryant Villeponteau. I assume that indicates you have found the answer to your question. If I assume wrong, please post here again. —teb728 t c 04:11, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Citing
Hello,
First, let me thank you all at the Help Desk who take time out of your day to help users like me.
Second, my actual question. I am working on adding info boxes to albums, and I am wondering if I could cite amazon.co.uk for some of the data. Like length, genre, ect.?
Thanks again,
Yonikasz (talk) 01:03, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- In general, Yonikasz, linking to Amazon, or other commercial vendors, is frowned upon. Besides that, Amazon URLs are notoriously unstable, and they have a habit of re-using the same URL to point to a different, later, edition of a book or CD. (This used to give people fits over at the ISFDB.) So I would advise using a different source if possible. The publisher's web site would be a WP:PRIMARY source, but should be reliable for this sort of thing. Review sites might also work. DES 02:21, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
@DESiegel: Thank so much for your reply. The album that I am working on is pretty old, but not old enough to be out of copyright. Would using WorldCat work? Thanks again, Yonikasz (talk) 02:31, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yonikasz, cites to worldcat should be fine on reliability, and their urls are pretty stable. We even have a template for it {{oclc}}. I don't understand what copyright has to do with it. The album being in copyright woudl not pevent you using a link to the publisher's web site. For the mater of that, if it is a physical album, data from the cover or liner notes should be an acceptable source, sources must be published but need not be online. One can always quote facts from a copyrighted source as long as the total lengh quoted is short. Facts (as opposed to wording) are not protected by copyright under uS law. DES 02:47, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- WorldCat URLs have to be stable, because changing them non-systematically would ruin connections with us libraries that contribute to it. Granted, they could change them systematically, but that would easily be resolved with a simple change to {{oclc}}. Note that you only need the OCLC record number in the URL; while Armies of Great Britain has its full URL at http://www.worldcat.org/title/armies-of-great-britain/oclc/881165055, things will work equally well if you just use http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/881165055; you can get it either by truncating the URL (just remove /title/ and the immediately following section that depends on the title) or by clicking the "Permalink" button at right, between the "sign in or create a free account" link and above the scrolling "Near libraries to . editing and updating
A page https://en.wikipedia.org/Janette_Kerr has been created about me by my gallery Cadogan Contemporary. I corrected and updated the information, but have received a message from you that this has been undone. I also rewrote a few sentences that are badly phrased. All this it appears to be there. So I don't understand the message I have received — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanetteKerr (talk • contribs) 08:23, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
