Rinsch studied at Brown University and Columbia University, where he earned Honors in the fields of English, Arts and Science.
Career
Carl Erik Rinsch is a filmmaker working in commercials, features, and state of the art interactive technologies. He brings his passion for strong narratives to multiple technologies with the aim of conveying an emotional and cinematic story. He is best known for combining great cinematic scope with cutting edge VFX and craft.
He has been named the D&AD Best New Director, and was featured in Saatchi and Saatchi's New Director's Showcase. He has been awarded the Cannes Gold Lion for both Direction and Visual Effects, as well as the Cannes Grand Prix.
His fine art photographic work has been featured in various publications including Rolling Stone magazine, and his commercial film work has included clients such as Mercedes, Audi, BMW, LG, Samsung, Philips and Absolut.
Rinsch made his directorial debut in 2013 with 47 Ronin, a fantasy adaptation of the Japanese historical epic of the same name, starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Rinko Kikuchi. Widely panned by critics with an overall loss of around $152 million. It was the 20th biggest box office flop by net loss (1982-2013)
