The Americas are the two continents located between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, namely North America and South America. Central America is often called that, as if it were a separate entity, but technically it is a part of North America. The Americas are often also described collectively as the Western Hemisphere or the New World.
Some Spanish language speakers consider there to be no separation between North America and South America but only one continent America, while other Spanish speakers consider Norte America and Sur America to be separate continents.
See naming of America for a discussion of how the Americas were named.
