Chionite "Red Huns" became noted around 320 CE when they began to encroach upon the frontiers of Iran and their Kushan state. They arrived there as their state known in Chinese sources as Huo Zhao grew to displace the Qian Zhao. They became better known as Kidarites from 360 AD after their leader Kidara established their only recorded dynasty. After their union with the Hua, the Kidarite "Red" Hiun pushed into India where they became known as the Hunas.
