The site of now Dong Hoi was long a conflict territory between Champa kingdom and Dai Viet. It became officially the Dai Viet territory after the political marriage of Tran dynastry's princess Huyen Tran. This was a marriage-for-land as it was a traditional practice by Champa kings. The Dong Hoi Wall was then considered the frontier fortress to protect Lords Nguyen from the attack by Northern Trinh family. During Vietnam War, this city was heavily devasted by the bombardments by the US B-52 due to its location near to 17 Parallel and DMZ between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Dong Hoi is a capital city of Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. It is located at around 17°28′60″N 106°35′60″E / 17.48333°N 106.60000°E / 17.48333; 106.60000 Coordinates: latitude seconds >= 60

It's endowned with beautiful beach of Nhat Le and is home to the World Heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park nearby. Dong Hoi city is accessible by road (National Highway 1A, Truong Son Highway) by railway at Dong Hoi railway station of the Ha Noi - Ho Chi Minh City Railway or by air to Ha Noi and Ho Chi minh City at Dong Hoi Airport. The city provide tourists with several 1 to 3-star hotels, especially the 4-star resort of Sun Spa Resort. Cuisine includes seafoods, hotpots...
