William Lawson Harris ,Jr. was the youngest son of businessman, William Lawson Harris ,Sr. (1858 - 1938) and Dorothy Johnson (1865 - 1975), William,Jr. came to Australia originally at the behest of Arthur Shirley to work as production manager on The Throwback (1920) and stayed out there for a number of years. William Lawson Harris ,Jr. married in 1925 to stage actress, Dolores Johnson (1900 - 1984).

William Lawson Harris ,Jr. was the father of actor and director John Derek.
