Personal
Mike S. Zafirovski immigrated to the United States from Macedonia in 1969, not knowing any English. Two years later, he got into Edinboro University on a swimming scholarship.
Career
Zafirovski is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Nortel Networks. He replaced Bill Owens as of November 15, 2005.
Perviously, he worked at Motorola. He had served as Executive Vice President and President of the Personal Communications Sector of Motorola, Inc. from June 2000 until July 2002. From July 2002 until January 2005, Zafirovski was President and Chief Operating Officer of Motorola. And a consultant to and a director of Motorola from then until May 2005.
Prior to joining Motorola, Mr. Zafirovski spent 24 years with General Electric, where he served in management positions, his most recent being President and CEO of GE Lighting from July 1999 to May 2000. He is a Director of Boeing.
