I removed nandita das's photo , some one paste it with Fakir Mohan Senapati, as Senapati was considered a builder of the Nation and to add an actress photo to him is not only unjustified but also a vugar attempt to demoralize a Nation's identity. 12 June 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.200.225.6 (talk)

I removed the notice questioning the accuracy of the article because no dispute was raised on the talk page. If someone wants to put it back, please explain why on the talk page. Brad T. Cordeiro 03:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

You had removed Nandita Das' photo. Brilliant! So you have shown that Oriya culture could produce only one Fakir Mohan Senapati. You did not add any other eminent figure. You didn't add Utkala Mani Gopabandhu's photo, Utakala Gaurava Madhusudan Das' photo, both who have done great service to the state of Orissa. You didn't even think about adding Biju Patnaik's photo, who had done a lot to develop the nation! And what's wrong with Nandita Das? She is not some actress whose capabilities are only confined to exposing flesh like Bipasha Basu. She is an excellent actress and eminent film maker. She has acted mostly in art house cinema, more than even Irfan Khan and and Konkona Sen. She is well known abroad and she is highly respected and has received international acclaim.Whenever I mention that Nandita Das is an Oriya, some people cannot believe that such an excellent and accomplished actor is from Orissa, which they always believe to be some culturally backward and deficient place. And you removed her photo, because she is an actress and therefore vulgar! If Lipsa Acharya's photo had been pasted and you would have removed it, I would have applauded you for having the sense to do so! Even I would remove such an infamous woman's photo! But Nandita Das!It says a lot about your view of things. Look at other community articles like the Irish- American one. These articles not only have respected statesmen and writers and poets, but also singers and actors. It reflects the diverse accomplishments of a community. Orissa has not just produced one Fakir Mohan Senapati, a distinguished and revolutionary writer nevertheless. It has also produced many people who have influenced the destiny of this nation. These photos should inspire people to do something great so that their community can hold their heads high. And as far as "vulgarity" is concerned, a century ago, when Fakir Mohan Senapati was alive, if there was a Misplaced Pages and such an article was produced, and if someone had put the portrait of Sarala Das and somebody else put the Builder of the Nation, Fakir Mohan Senapati's photo, then someone, who is a self appointed judge of public morals at that period of time, would have removed Fakir Mohan Senapatiji's photo, because writer who is eminent for us now, was considered a revolutionary by many of his contemporaries, who harmed the order of society. So think before you start judging vulgarity. -Prakritapuram. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prakritapuram (talkcontribs) 19:22, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Removing un-polished content

"The inhabitants of orissa (known as oriya or odia) are aryans who are also known as north indians. Their culture differ from th dravidian culture (commonly known as south indians) to much extent. Both north indians and south indians live in the same country INDIA and they have great brotherhood among themselves despite of their differernces in culture"

I'm removing this as it is clearly not up to Misplaced Pages's standards, as well as being obviously written by an excessively proud Oriya person (and being located in the wrong place). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.48.42.244 (talk) 08:04, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Requested move 27 June 2015

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved. Number 57 21:38, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Oriya peopleOdia people – In accordance with the Oriya to Odia change in Odia language. Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 17:46, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Odias will be a better title for the article. — Remoonline (talk) 09:46, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
While the oppose vote below was probably made in error, let's keep things simple and get the the move to Odia people approved first. We can then consider moving to Odias.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 10:05, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Rather than adding the word "people" as disambiguator, the concise plural ethnonym (Odias) should be used in titles whenever possible and when its not ambiguous in meaning. This is the general convention in Misplaced Pages. Khestwol (talk) 11:25, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
@Kwamikagami: FYI, Oriya language has already been moved to Odia language. It would therefore be inappropriate to not move the others.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 07:10, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Never mind. I see that you are well aware that the move has been approved.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 10:22, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
I was able to revert the text changes, but am unable to reverse the article title move back to Odia alphabet.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 12:31, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
A multiple pages move request could be started to also move these remaining articles which are still using Oriya. Khestwol (talk) 11:01, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
That makes sense. It's too late to edit this request. But I'll make another one elsewhere once this is approved. (BTW, that PrefixIndex list is actually much shorter than it looks as many of the entries are actually redirects.)--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 12:31, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Cpt.a.haddock: It will be ok if you start one new multiple page move request right now. Here is the list again with the redirects hidden. The articles which may be moved are: Oriya alphabet, Oriya (Unicode block), Oriya languages, Oriya Muslims, Oriya literature. Khestwol (talk) 14:00, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
@Khestwol: Thanks for the list. Rather than the pages being protected, most moves are simply being prevented due to the target page being in the way. I've managed to request many to be deleted and the moves processed. If any are left after a few days, I'll open a multiple move request accordingly. (Also, I'm not sure if Oriya (Unicode block) should be renamed. It's possible that the block will continue to be named Oriya for reasons of stability.)--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 06:09, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
