Florida breaks also referred to as Orlando breaks, The Breaks, or The Orlando Sound is a genre of breakbeat music which, as the name suggests, originated in central region of the State of Florida, United States. Florida Breaks originated from a mix of hip-hop, Miami bass and electro and is sometimes refereed to as the funky breaks.
The genre quickly became popular in club culture around the globe during the mid 1990s and peaked by 2000.
Florida Breaks Artists
DJ Icee (now DJ Icey), DJ Stylus, Kimball Collins, Dave Cannalte, Andy Hughes Chris Fortier, and K5 specialized in and were were early producers or performers of Florida Breaks.
Florida Breaks venues
The Beacham Theatre, The Edge (Orlando), The Abyss and Club at the Firestone<ref name="Gettelman 1997" /> were early Florida Breaks venues.
