Kaiba Corporation (海馬コーポレイション ) is a fictional corporate entity from the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.
The company is owned by Seto Kaiba. Kaiba is cold hearted; and, his company stands for his desire for pure power, victory and success. The corporate headquarters are located in Domino City (Battle City), where Kaiba hosts Battle City, a company sponsored tournament. The company's prize product is the Duel Disk, a dueling system.
Kaiba corp. has also expanded into other areas of the gaming and entertainment industries. Kaibaland, an amusement park, was built in Domino City, the culmination of the Kaiba brother's dream to create a park for orphaned or underprivileged children. Kaiba Corp was originally a military arms dealer owned by Gozaburo Kaiba. Gozaburo later adopted Seto. For Seto's birthday, Gozaburo gives Seto a 2% share of Kaiba Corp, and this proves to be his downfall. The Big Five, the board of directors, are beginning to tire of Gozaburo, and Seto manipulated them, his father, and his own brother Mokuba Kaiba as tools to get himself into power.
Seto tells the Big Five to buy 49% of Kaiba Corp, and give it to him. This, combined with his 2%, will make him the owner of 51% of the company: enough to vote out Gozaburo, and vote himself in as president of the company. As a safeguard in case Gozaburo should find out, Kaiba gives his 2% to Mokuba, after which he casts him out. Mokuba seeks comfort in Gozaburo.
When Gozaburo gets wind of the plan, he buys 49% also. With Mokuba by his side, Gozaburo is confident he has enough to keep Seto out of power. But upon Seto and Big Five buying their 49%, Mokuba reveals he would never betray Seto. With 51%, Seto, Mokuba, and the Big Five vote Gozaburo out of office. Seto later strips the Big Five of their positions of power.
The Big Five discover that Maximillion Pegasus intends to use Kaiba Corp's holographic technology as part of a plan to revive his dead lover. The Big Five and Seto still own 49% of the company, and once again, Mokuba's 2% is the deciding factor. Mokuba travels to Duelist Kingdom to duel Yugi Mutou, but is kidnapped by Pegasus. The Big Five and Pegasus strike a deal to vote Pegasus in as the president of the company if he defeats Yugi Mutou. Pegasus fails to do so, and the Big Five are outed to Seto. Seto threatens to fire them, but the Big Five ask that Seto accept a peace offering: they completed his Virtual World software. This spawns the Legendary Heroes arc, after which Seto fires the Big Five. They return in the Virtual World arc.
Seto's rise to power involved direct manipulation of the Big Five, Gozaburo, and Mokuba. Due to this, as well as Kaiba Corp's past as a weapons company, Seto is often brought to blows with those who have a vendetta against him and the company. These include the Big Five themselves, Gozaburo, and his son Noah Kaiba. Alister of the Doma Arc also seeks revenge for his little brother, who was killed in a military attack by Kaiba funded artillery. Later, this attack is revealed to have been ordered by Dartz, masquerading as Gozaburo.
Most notable of Kaiba Corp's rivals is Schroeder Corp, headed by Zigfried von Schroeder. The Schroeder family has been rivals of the Kaibas ever since before Seto's time. They were also once a military dealer like Kaiba Corp. But when the past CEO went mad, Zigfried took power and changed the company to a games maker: as it would happen, this is the same time of Seto's rise to power, and the reformatting of his company to a game maker as well. Schroeder and Kaiba Corp both researched and developed holographic projection systems for Duel Monsters, but Seto's was patented and marketted first. Zigfried is furious over the fact that Seto always seemed to be one step ahead of him, and until his defeat at the KC Grand Championship, was obsessed with ruining KaibaCorp.
Another notable fictional company in the Yu-gi-oh! series is Industrial Illusions headed by Maximillion Pegasus. It is inmportant to note that Kaiba corp. technology, especially the Duel Disk, run seamlessly with the Duel Monsters game, created by Pegasus and both companies have worked closely in conjunction. Kaiba and Pegasus are in fact old friends who met when Pegasus was still an active participant in the dueling world, although his bids for the ownership of KaibaCorp have since driven a rift between them. Pegasus still (somewhat mockingly) regards Kaiba as a friend, however.
