Herluin de Conteville, Duke of Le Mans, born circa 998, was the son of John, Duke of Le Mans. He was a Norman nobleman; he married first Fredessende, and then Herleve, the former mistress of Robert the Magnificent, Duke of Normandy and mother of William the Conqueror.
In 1020, Herluin married Fredessende, and had John Duke of Le Mans, Ranulf who became Lord of Allerton, and Emma de Conteville. In 1027, his friend Duke Robert of Normandy made him Viscount of Conteville.
In 1030, Herluin married Harleve and had Robert who became Count of Mortain, then Odo who became Bishop of Bayeux, Isabel de Conteville, Matilda de Conteville, and Muriel de Conteville. Robert the Magnificent, and Herluin were very good friends.
In 1050, Harleve, died at the age of 46, in 1066, Herluin, died at the age of 68 years old, with his son John succeeding to the title Duke of Le Mans, even though he died, with no heirs, seven years later.
