WBEY-FM (97.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Country music format. Licensed to Crisfield, Maryland, United States, the station is currently owned by GSB Media, LLC. and features programming from ABC Radio, WestwoodOne, Maryland News Network, and United Stations Radio Network.

Bay Country 97.9 broadcasts on 97.9FM and online at baycountry979.com. Live radio stream can be accessed at the station's website, on computer or mobile device using TuneIn or the TuneIn app, and on ShoutCast (for use with iTunes or other similar media players).

History

WBEY originally signed on in 1993, on 96.9 FM in Crisfield, MD. In the early 2000’s, WBEY relocated its studios from Crisfield to Pocomoke City, MD.

Local and maritime weather forecasts are provided by AccuWeather. WBEY operated from its former sister stations studios (WGOP-AM) and transmitter site on Dunn Swamp Road in Pocomoke City until WBEY was sold to GSB Media in October of 2018

Wray Fitch and Greg Bojko under the joint company GSB Media, LLC. for $237,500.00. making WBEY the sixth station and third format operated by GSB Media, LLC. joining sister stations WCTG and WVES programmed as adult hits/variety (96.5 & 101.5 CTG WCTG), and WOWZ-FM/LP and WICO-FM programmed as Classic Country (WOW 101.1 & 99.3 That’s Country WICO-FM).

Talent and Programming

GSB Media, LLC brought back to the Bay Country 97.9 lineup several notable Delmarva radio on air talent who were featured on WBEY-FM under Bay Broadcasting Inc., including Benjy “Doc” Holloway, Adam Riggin, and former ClearChannel Radio PD for former 96 Rock (now WKZP Hot AC Kiss 95.9) and Afternoon Drive jock Rich Drake.

Bay Country 97.9 also airs “The General Store”, formerly known as “Party Line”, weekdays from 10-10:30, a program where people can call to buy, sell, or trade items on the radio, as well as list community events. This program was carried over from Bay Broadcasting, Inc. who picked up the programming when the former 94.3 WICO-FM/Salisbury, MD dropped “Party Line” which was hosted by longtime jock Bill Phillips.
