Narendra Modi (born September 17, 1950) is the chief minister of the state of Gujarat in India since October 7, 2001.
Coming from a very modest background, he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat when Keshubhai Patel resigned from office following the loss of 2 Assembly bypolls and 1 Lok Sabha seat. Modi is regarded as a clean, energetic leader with focus on Gujarat's future. He has championed the common-man's cause. Modi is the only CM in the country that donates all his personal gifts for auctions, the money from which goes to girls education.

Challenges
Many political parties in India asked him to resign following the Gujarat Riots. But Modi stood firm and challenged his opposers. In state-wide elections held recently, Narendra Modi won a landslide victory.
