Erik Bornmann was a prominent member of the University of Victoria Young Liberals. It was at that time that he first was elected President of the Young Liberals of Canada (BC). As a President of the Young Liberals, Erik Bornmann helped build that organization into a strong voice within the Liberal Party of Canada. The Young Liberals of Canada (BC) were known for being an influential and activist force within the Liberal Party of Canada. The organization played a leadership role in formulating Liberal Party Policy, including same-sex marriage, abolition of the Immigration Landing Tax, and greater electoral representation for British Columbia. In 2003 the RCMP publicised an investigation targeting two BC government assistants. The investigation pertained to the privatization of BC Rail. Erik Bornmann along with former business partner Brian Kieran and a representative of a former client and bidder for BC Rail, OmniTRAX, are expected to testify for the crown against these former officials. The nature of their testimony is the subject of a court sealing order. In the ensuing information vacuum there has been rampant and often fanciful speculation as to the nature of each witness's role in this matter.
