A king in Greek mythology, Orchomenus was the father of Elara.

Other Greek mythological figures bearing the same name include:

  2. the father of Minyas;
  3. a murdered son of Thyestes;
  4. a childless son of Minyas;
  5. the son of Athamas and Themisto.

Orchomenus, or Orkhómenos, was a city in Greece, situated on the Cephissus river where it emptied into Lake Copais. It was an important city in the Mycenaean period, and is presently an important archeological site.
