Vocal jazz or jazz singing is an instrumental approach to the voice. Similarly to a cappella it utilises vocal arrangements to create sounds, the sum of which forms music, rather than utilising traditional musical instruments.
One form, vocal jazz ensembles, emerged in the United States in the early twentieth century.
