The container ship X-Press Pearl (pictured) sinks near Colombo, Sri Lanka, leaking several tons of nitric acid and oil into the ocean and causing a major environmental disaster.

The template accepts one parameter: adding |nocurrenteventslink=1 removes the link to Portal:Current events. This is used on the current events page to hide the link there.
