FIDE did this too when announcing the format. Technically he's in because he withdrew from previous one, not because he won 2019 WC← Previous edit | Revision as of 03:15, 15 June 2021 edit undoAdpete (talk | contribs)Extended confirmed users17,147 edits →Candidates Tournament: link to general GP article until 2022 one existsNext edit → | ||

The World Chess Championship 2022/23 will be a chess match for the World Chess Championship. The match will be between a champion, who will be the winner of the World Chess Championship 2021 between Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi; and a challenger, who will be the winner of the 2022 Candidates Tournament.
FIDE announced the 2022 Candidates Tournament in May 2021. No date for the championship match was given, but it led to speculation that the championship match would also be in 2022.
