==Background==
Begley was born in the nationalist ] area of north ]. In January 1993, Begley joined the ].

==Paramilitary career==
Begley was killed when a bomb he planted under a ] meeting room which exploded prematurely killing himself and nine civilians. Forensic evidence pointed to Begley holding the five pound bomb above the refrigerated serving counter at the fish shop when it exploded. ], who was the other IRA Volunteer in the shop at the time was convicted of murder his connection in the ].

==Funeral==
The funeral of Begley caused some controversy when the ] leader ] was heavily criticised for carrying Begley's coffin.
