What I have learned in my first few months at Misplaced Pages
Misplaced Pages and it's editors and administrators are not interested in creating something useful or promoting knowlege. For them Misplaced Pages is no different from Myspace but instead of collecting friends, the object is to collect edits. The more edits you do, the more likely you are to be nominated for Adminstrator where you will have even more power. The easiest way to collect edits is to find new articles that are flawed and nominate them for deletion. Do not waste time improving an article. Just nominate it for deletion and move on. Having your signature appear once in 1000 articles is more valuable than having your signature in one article 1000 times. I repeat, do not waste time improving a developing article or providing constructive criticism. Nobody is here to teach or learn.--Sand Squid 14:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Sand Squid. I am busy trying to respond to your {{helpme}} request. In the meantime I will try and reply to your above post consctructively.
- I agree that there are quite a few admins on Misplaced Pages that just go around looking for articles that they can nominate for deletion. There are users who boast on their userpages that they have "..nominated x amount of articles for deletion and in most cases they were usually deleted" as well as providing some lists on articles they were responsible for deleting. And I suppose that's good, because there are a lot of articles on wikipedia that actually need to be deleted. But then there's also the problem that many admins would rather not improve problem articles, they would just rather delete them. I've been involved in a major feud with an admin over an article that was deleted that could easily have been fixed. If an article has a problem I think that templates should be put up that warn readers what the problems are so that they can fix them. So yes, a lot of administrators are lazy and are prone to just want to delete.
- The good news is, that they normally have to follow some rules about deletion. There are certain guidelines on when you can delete an article. And unfortunately a lot of the time wikipedia users don't understand those guidelines and those silly admins don't properly explain which guidelines they were following when they deleted the article and new and inexperienced users can be rather confused even if they do explain which guidelines they are using. For example there's something called WP:SALTing, which basically means to delete an article and stop users from recreating the article. There's something called G4 which allows admins to delete articles that are recreated if they are very similar to a deleted version of that article.
- I also assume you know about something called Articles for deletion which is a process that happens in most cases that an article is deleted, where other editors that are familiar with wikipedia deletion policy can discuss whether or not that article should be deleted.
- Anyways, if I am going to help you with this matter, I will need some more information. What is the deleted article that you are referring to, and why do you think it should not be deleted?
- Once I have that information, I can find out why the article was deleted, what wikipedia policy they cited, did the article go up for Articles for deletion, etc.
- Let me know what I can do to help Rfwoolf 16:01, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

What do you want help with?

Regarding your user page...
Just an FYI... if a page is deleted, those edits don't show up in someone's edit count any more. So if someone is just editing to increase his/her edit count it's a fairly inefficient way to do it. :) ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 17:13, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- If an editor has no edits in article space... or very few edits improving article it makes it much less likely they will become an admin. I should know, I'm an admin. :)
- Just a question, what article of yours was deleted? ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 18:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok so maybe she is not interested in becoming an admin. I really dont care what her hopes & dreams are. And yes I understand that individual edits dissapear once an article is deleted. My point is that she & too many people like here are so quick to nominate & delete articles whose history demonstrates a pattern of constant improvement. Apparently the other Admins & editors here have thousands of hours available to delete but not one minute for guidance.
Does it really matter what my article was? It is gone & the damage is done. As I have said on other talk pages, it was not a long fall from gnome to troll--Sand Squid 18:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- It matters because I want to learn more about the situation and perhaps help make it right. No, the article is not gone, it's in the deletion records that admins like me have access too. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 18:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I see Messy Stench (AFD), right? I think that the issue there is that people felt the person didn't satisfy the requirements outlined in WP:BIO. If Messy Stench really does pass WP:BIO we can work on getting it undeleted, if that's something your interested in. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 18:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
I think you misunderstand why I am bitter about this. It the article truly deserved to be deleted then so be it. I am bitter that I was working so hard on it and I think it was obvious that I was constantly improving it but it didnt matter. Once the deletion ball started rolling, it was a done deal. This was not an article about a trivial subject. Granted her fans are probably in the hundreds, maybe thousands, but she is very well known in the punk-rock and grindcore scene. How else would she have been able to attract the the well known personalities such as Dave Navarro, Lloyd Kaufman or member of GWAR to her show?
Like I said, if it remains deleted or is restored matters little to me anymore. I won't spend any effort on rewriting it. I've found a new way to entertain myself with Misplaced Pages. --Sand Squid 18:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Reply to post about my name
Thanks, although if I'd knownn I was going to do this much editing I might have simply used my own name, seems more honest that way.
While I might not agree totally with your view that some on here seem to live for deleting other's articles, I will say I do think there is some truth in that sentiment as some do seem a little too quick to cut additions to articles without discussion. RoyBatty42 18:07, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
