This is a Misplaced Pages user talk page.
This is not an encyclopedia article or the talk page for an encyclopedia article. If you find this page on any site other than Misplaced Pages, you are viewing a mirror site. Be aware that the page may be outdated and that the user whom this page is about may have no personal affiliation with any site other than Misplaced Pages. The original talk page is located at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dgw.

Hi, everyone. This isn't the most spiffy talk page you will ever see, but it's my belief that less is more. Besides, if the talk page is for talking, why decorate it? Leave me a message if you've got something chewing on your ear, or if you just want to say something to me. Please use the + tab above unless you're replying to a discussion already present, in which case please edit only that section and indent your reply using one more colon (:) than the last person. Also, please remember to sign your posts. Thanks!

Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Dgw, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Misplaced Pages:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Peripitus 08:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

I've moved your article text from Thargola's sword to Nightfall (Asimov) and redirected the article. Although the text is good it could never be long enough for a complete article. Happy editing Peripitus 08:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm suprised it was that quick. I was considering placing that on the novel's page, but didn't know if it would go over. Thanks for deciding that. --Tuvok 08:57, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Userbox Policy

I asked in WP:MUPP about the new policy of userboxes. Please reply here about how existing boxes will be converted to the new policy. --Tuvok 04:24, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

If the proposal is accepted, existing userboxes will be moved to the new Userbox: space – for example, Template:User foo will be moved to Userbox:Foo. Userpages that include the existing userboxes as templates will then need to be edited to point the template links to the new location – for example, {{user foo}} will be changed to {{userbox:foo}}. Both these tasks could easily be carried out by a bot – Gurch 15:54, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I hope a bot does it, but editing would be simple using a text editor, as well. --Tuvok 05:58, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Supposed Vandalism to Israel

Welcome to Misplaced Pages. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to ], are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks. --Maxasus 15:46, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

What vandalism? I removed an offensive image from the page. This is vandalism?! --Tuvok 23:48, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
This user has been blocked for 24 hours for disruption. I'd ignore their previous edits for now. -- Longhair\ 14:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, that's good to know, both of you. --Tuvok 20:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Their block has been extended to indefinite. - Longhair\ 23:13, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
More disruption? --Tuvok 04:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
You could say that. See my post and related replies at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive138#User:Maxasus -- Longhair\ 04:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, it's nice to know that I wasn't really vandalizing Misplaced Pages, and that Maxasus won't be bothering anybody anymore. --Tuvok 04:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
I thought I'd keep you in the loop. As you were one of his targets, I thought you'd appreciate the happy ending :) Sorry for the talk page intrusions over a non-event. I'm merely cleaning up the mess left behind and making sure all is well again. -- Longhair\ 04:48, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks! --Tuvok 04:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup Taskforce

I have added the article Front side bus about computer hardware to your desk. (I'm not sure the title shouldn't be changed.) Please look at it and accept, reject or let me know and I'll reassign it. Thank you. RJFJR 16:39, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Response added to your talk page. -- Tuvok^  23:40, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Blogger template & fair use images

Thanks for fixing up the text. While I prefer the Blogger logo as well, Misplaced Pages policy is that fair use images are only allowed in article space, not in templates (see item #9 in the policy). --Joe Sewell 17:21, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

So how can we use the Blogger logo? I think the template looks better with an image instead of an italic "B". -- Tuvok^  23:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Totally agree with you, Tuvok. --I80and 23:54, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree as well with the looks. Misplaced Pages policy, though, says we cannot use "fair use" images outside of articles, which would include user pages and templates. I linked to the policy above, and here. The userbox originally used the logo, but it was replaced with the plainer "B" for this reason. --Joe Sewell 16:34, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Is there any way to include this logo in the template? -- Tuvok^  06:57, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
No. That's the whole point. Because the logo is copyrighted, its usage on Misplaced Pages must fall in line with fair use policies. As I've already stated, Misplaced Pages policies indicate it cannot be used under fair use guidelines. Therefore, it cannot be used. --Joe Sewell 21:59, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: RealTitle

I really like your Real Title script, Interiot, and I've used it to replace a Greasemonkey script I used to have. However, I've noticed that when I visit a page like, say, my monobook.js, the title is not "User:Voyagerfan5761/monobook.js", but rather "User:title". Can you fix this? It would make a great script even better! -- Tuvok^  08:03, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Is User:Voyagerfan5761/monobook.js the specific page you see the problem on? What browser and operating system (windows, mac, linux) are you using? Does "User:Title" appear below the "user page" and "discussion" tabs, or does it only appear at the very top of your browser? --Interiot 08:06, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
It is the specific page I see it on. I have Firefox 1.5.0.6 on Windows XP. The "User:title" (that's an exact quote) thing appears in the window title and tab, but the title at the top of the page is untouched. Also, the script freezes my browser momentarily, making my computer switch to another application momentarily. The problem does not seem to occur on monobook.css (which actually doesn't exist). -- Tuvok^  08:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
You mentioned you use GreaseMonkey... is there a chance you could try disabling all your greasemonkey scripts, and see if it still happens? If that doesn't work, you might try temporarily blanking your monobook.js (and ctrl+r'ing, of course), and see if it still occurs then. Though I tried to load your monobook.js from my monobook.js (I'm using Firefox 2.0 in Windows XP), and I didn't see the issue. --Interiot 08:17, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
I tried loading other users' monobook.js files, but mine was the only one with a problem. Disabling Greasemonkey had no effect. Maybe I'll have to try blanking monobook.js. I'll just back it up to a text file. I'll post again within a few minutes. -- Tuvok^  08:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Nope, same problem. -- Tuvok^  08:28, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Hrm, I think I'm a bit stumped. I haven't heard of any reports of it, and I've done a lot of testing in Firefox 2.0 on XP, and I don't see it on my side. --Interiot 08:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
It might be a bug in FF 1.5 or something. I'll see if the problem persists into my upgrade to Firefox 2.0, whenever that might be. Thanks for checking this out! -- Tuvok^  08:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
