Your submission at Articles for creation: Palladium jubilee (September 14)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Dan arndt was: This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Misplaced Pages article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. The comment the reviewer left was: Wikipedias and fansites are not acceptable or reliable sources. The Cambridge Dictionary doesn't mention a 'palladium jubilee'. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Dan arndt (talk) 06:44, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Ruby Jubilee of Elizabeth II (November 16)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Unbroken Chain was: This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. The comment the reviewer left was: I'm not sure that this merits an article but what I am sure of is that the phrase "It was better known as her "annus horribilis" - one of the most difficult periods of her reign – as her chidren’s marriages were in tatters and public opinion turned against the Royals" is a direct quote adding the word family doesn't change that. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. • I'm not a huge Royals or royalty person, but Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilees are typically fairly notable since even someone like myself, who doesn't go out of their way to consume media about them has heard of it. I left a message on the royalty WikiProject, which focuses on royalty related articles on Misplaced Pages, about the article and yourself. Hopefully someone can help you flesh it out! Misplaced Pages and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Peter Ormond, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Your additions to Ruby Jubilee of Elizabeth II have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Misplaced Pages, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Misplaced Pages.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Misplaced Pages. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Misplaced Pages articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Misplaced Pages project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Misplaced Pages:Translation#How to translate. See also Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Copying within Misplaced Pages requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages. It appears that you copied or moved text from Republic Day (India) into List of Chief guests at Delhi Republic Day parade. While you are welcome to re-use Misplaced Pages's content, here or elsewhere, Misplaced Pages's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Misplaced Pages, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from ]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 11:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Palladium jubilee (January 12)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Zoozaz1 was: This topic likely results from [[WP:CITOGENESIS citogenesis]], and references should be found before this topic was mentioned on Misplaced Pages, in this case May 2019. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Greetings!

I stumbled across this... and can't quite think how to factor it into the article that you've worked so hard on. All the best! No Swan So Fine (talk) 21:06, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

I have added. Check if it is fine. Thank you. :) Peter Ormond (talk) 01:48, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Looks wonderful, thank you. I like the new title, it's an unofficial/official concept anyway! No Swan So Fine (talk) 10:18, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Attendee list

Hi. Is there a reason to insist on so much italic text? It is quite an eyesore and goes against MOS:ITALICS. I also do not think we should present the same information twice in one section, i.e. explain twice his relationship to the German attendees, or provide links twice. The attendee list is best kept simple; we already do not describe how exactly the rest of the extended family is related to him, nor should we. I agree that the German relations should be explained and the paragraph you added does so very well! Surtsicna (talk) 22:38, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Italics are also used at Death and state funeral of George VI, Death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, List of wedding guests of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, Wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones, List of wedding guests of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, List of wedding guests of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, List of wedding guests of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank and so on. I am just following that. Peter Ormond (talk) 22:51, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
I know, but they should not be. It is contrary to MOS and entirely unnecessary. Surtsicna (talk) 23:25, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Soliciting a meat-puppet

You are blocked indefinitely at Commons. Do not make any further attempt here to solicit a meat-puppet to do your bidding there. -- Hoary (talk) 22:38, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Greetings Hoary! I am sorry about this. I didn't know that this wasn't allowed nor had I ever heard the term "meat-puppet" or what it means. Anyways, thanks for alerting me. Thanks and best wishes.

List of titles and honours of Elizabeth II

Under /Royal titles and styles/Unofficial, you've listed a number of nicknames. Nicknames are completely different from titles: while certain places might have special titles they like to address the Queen with, one would never address the Queen by using a nickname. You should list those nicknames in a standalone section, possibly at the very end of the list.

There are also problems with how you've handled the specific case of Hong Kong. The native language there is Cantonese, not Mandarin, so giving the Mandarin pronunciation doesn't make sense. I don't think 事頭婆 is used at all in Mandarin, not even in the general sense, let alone as a nickname for the Queen. You should also indicate that "boss lady" is a translation of 事頭婆 – the way it's currently written, it seems "boss lady" and "boss" are actual nicknames for her in Hong Kong English. But no Anglophone Hongkonger actually uses "boss" or "boss lady" to refer to her when speaking or writing English. I believe the person being interviewed in the article you quote is only trying to translate 事頭婆 to the English-speaking reporter. This would be another example of the same. It's important to be able to critically interpret a source. If you're ever unsure of what a source is trying to say, reaching out to a relevant Wikiproject, as you've already done, is a good idea.

I can fix the 事頭婆-related issues. I'll leave it to you how to handle the issue of separating her nicknames from her non-regnal titles. Cobblet (talk) 05:56, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Explanation of revert

I undid your move of the Windsors' 1937 tour for technical reasons only. I have no opinion either way on whether the page title is better with the date first. If you'd like to request a page move, the process is detailed at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves#Requesting a single page move. Thanks. DrKay (talk) 11:12, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

We don't use wikipedia as a source per WP:CIRCULAR. Sources need to be independent. DrKay (talk) 18:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Your recent page moves

Why are you moving certain articles to "State visit by X to Y", while changing others already titled that way to "State visit of X to Y"? "By" would seem to be the more common preposition used: see the subcategories under Category:Diplomatic visits for example. Cobblet (talk) 00:02, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

@Cobblet: Thanks for pointing that out. I later changed all to "of", as it was at State visit of Elizabeth II to the Republic of Ireland and State visit of Michael D. Higgins to the United Kingdom. :) Peter Ormond 💬 06:18, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
Except you haven't changed all of them to "of": see e.g., Category:Foreign trips by popes. From what I can tell, there was no established preference for "of" over "by", and most of the articles you moved originally used neither. I know you were trying to make related article titles more consistent by avoiding the possessive, and you mostly succeeded, but you haven't finished the job, and by choosing "of" rather than "by" the article titles are now inconsistent with all of the relevant categories, which is strange. Cobblet (talk) 08:14, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
@Cobblet: If that is the case, you may change them and use "by" rather than "of". Regards. Peter Ormond 💬 08:53, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
Next time, measure twice, cut once, and be more precise when explaining why you're making mass edits. Best, Cobblet (talk) 16:33, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Diamond Jubilee Google UK doodle.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Diamond Jubilee Google UK doodle.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 02:26, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
