The National Center for Employee Ownership is a non-profit research organization started in 1979 when Corey Rosen, staff member in the United States Senate became involved in drafting legislation on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). Although rare at the time, Rosen asserted that if more people understood ESOPs and the benefits they provide for companies, more companies would adopt them. By January 1982, the organization claimed to have "350 members from unions, businesses, and trade associations".
"Each September, the National Center for Employee Ownership publishes a list of the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S."
