History
Dennis Sexton Era (1965-1966)
Although not officially a member of the KHSAA until 1965, the Boyle County Football program started in 1963. The first ever coach as a member of the KHSAA was Dennis Sexton. Sexton coached the program for two years going 13–3–4 during his brief tenure.
Jim Greer Era (1967-68)
Following Dennis Sextons tenure with the Rebels, Boyle County hired Jim Greer. Greer lasted only two seasons going 0–20 before being relieved of his duties.
John Buchanan Era (1969-1973)
After Greers resignation, the program hired John Buchanan. At Boyle, Buchanan lasted five seasons going 25–28–2.
Ed Rall Era (1974-1987)
In 1974, Boyle hired Ed Rall as head coach. Up to that point, Rall had the longest tenure as head coach at Boyle coaching fourteen seasons and also had the best record at Boyle at the time going 94–57 during his tenure. Rall’s 1976 team was the first ten win team in school history.
Sam Burke Era (1988)
In 1988, Boyle hired Sam Burke. Burke only led the program for one year going 2-8.
John Griggs Era (1989-1991)
In 1989, Boyle County hired John Griggs. Over Griggs three year tenure with the program, he went 5-27.
Chuck Smith Era (1992-2004)
In 1992, Boyle County hired Chuck Smith from Campbellsville High School. Smith completely turned the program around winning five state titles in a row from 1999–2003. During his first tenure, Smith coached two future NFL players in Jacob Tamme and Travis Leffew. Smith also coached 2001 Kentucky Mr. Football winner Jeff Duggins. During Smith’s tenure, he went 143–32. In 2005, Smith accepted the linebackers coaching job at Kentucky under head coach Rich Brooks.
Chris Pardue Era (2005-2007)
In 2005, Boyle County hired long-time Rebels Offensive Coordinator Chris Pardue as the programs head coach. Pardue was the head coach at Boyle for three years going 22-15 in that span. Pardue’s most successful season came in 2005 when he led the Rebels to a 11-2 record. Currently, Pardue serves as offensive coordinator at Campbellsville University.
Larry French Era (2008-2013)
In 2008, Boyle County hired Larry French. French was previously the head coach at Mercer County High School, Meade County High School, and Lincoln County High School. French completely revitalized the program going 71-11 over his six year tenure. Furthermore, French won two KHSAA 4A state titles led by 2010 Kentucky Mr. Football award winner and former USC linebacker Lamar Dawson and Boyle County all-time leading rusher Rees Macshera. In 2013, French resigned from the program to take the head coaching job at Southwestern High School. Currently, French serves as the head coach at Middlesboro High School
Chuck Smith’s Return (2014-2019)
Following his stint as linebackers coach at Kentucky and a brief stint as Defensive Coordinator at Bardstown High School, Chuck Smith returned to Boyle County. During his final six years at Boyle County, Smith compiled a 69-12 record winning one KHSAA 3A state title (2017) led by West Virginia Wide Receiver Reese Smith and quarterback Reed Lanter. Following the 2019 season, Smith retired from coaching. Currently, Smith is KHSAA’s 26th winningest coach of all-time (234). and 7th all-time in state championship victories (6).
Justin Haddix Era (2020-present)
