Montreal (French, Montréal) is the largest city in Quebec, Canada; it was host of the World's Fair Expo '67 in 1967 and is the home town of the Montreal Expos baseball team. 3,511,800 people live in the Montreal area (Statistics Canada 2001).
Many people in Montreal speak both English and French.
Universities in Montreal include:
- Universite de Montreal
- Universite du Quebec a Montreal or UQAM
- McGill University
- Concordia University
As of January 1, 2002, the entire island of Montreal, home to 1.8 million people, falls under the jurisdiction of a new "megacity". Some 28 suburbs as well as the former city were folded into several boroughs.
