The album sold over 350,000 units in South America. and eventually over 2,000,000 units worldwide. Both The Last Don and The Last Don (Live) have been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. According to TheRichest website it sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide, earnings $4,700,000.

The album was nominated Latin Pop Album of the Year, New Artist for Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2003.

A re-release of the album, titled The Last Don: The Gold Series was released on December 19, 2006, through Machete Music. It includes two new songs: "Pobre Diabla" and "Ronca".
