Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Chapter is an upcoming American computer-animated superhero film based on the superhero team the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is the seventh theatrical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and the second to be made with computer-generated imagery (CGI), following 2007's TMNT. The film is directed by Jeff Rowe, from a screenplay by Brendan O'Brien. The project is a co-production between Nickelodeon Animation Studio and Point Grey Pictures.

The film is scheduled to be theatrically released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on August 4, 2023.

Production

Development

On June 30, 2020, it was announced that a CGI animated TMNT film was in the works at Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the project serving as the studios first ever CG-Theatrical production. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were reported as producers on the film through their Point Grey Pictures production company. The Mitchells vs. the Machines co-director Jeff Rowe was on-board as a director, with Neighbors screenwriter Brendan O'Brien penning the script. Paramount Pictures CEO and Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins described the project as a "next-level reinvention of the property".

Animation and design

In an interview, production designer Yashar Kassai stated that with modern animation tools and 3D, he felt a desire to make something visually "cool" for the new movie similar to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. the Machines(both of which are films Kassai had done work for as a visual development artist).

Release

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Chapter was originally scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on August 11, 2023, by Paramount Pictures. The films release date was later bumped a week earlier to now be on August 4, 2023.
