Template question

I found that in Laszló Lovassy, which uses {{Campaignbox Hungarian Revolution of 1848}}, the template was not transcluded but copied in its entirety into the article (twice actually). I was a little confused at first because the VTE links took you to the actual template. Just wondering if you have seen this before. If it is so unusual, its probably not worth worrying about. I don't know if there is any simple way to detect such clones that won't reflect updates to the actual template. MB 03:02, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

It looks like someone substed or pasted a local copy of the campaignbox into the article. And yes, that's how the VTE links work; they take you to the template page that matches |name=, even if that parameter exists in a page other than the target template, like in an article or a different template. Someone will probably figure out how to fix that quirk someday. I don't know of a way to find problems like this. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:11, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

February 2022 GOCE blitz bling

Database replicas access

Hello. This is perhaps a dumb question, but do you have Wikimedia Toolserver/Tool Labs/Toolforge/Cloud shell access? If not, would it make sense to get you a shell account there so you can directly access the database replicas? I guess with tools such as Quarry it's a little less necessary these days but using a shell account can be an awfully convenient way to run some queries and scripts. Plus there are shared/multi-user accounts you could get access to. --MZMcBride (talk) 04:11, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

I don't have any of those things, but I'd like to learn about them as long as I won't break anything. I'm not afraid of shell accounts, and I've learned enough wikicode to be dangerous (and helpful). SQL has always mystified me, but I'm pretty good at copying and pasting and tweaking things until I get it right. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:57, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
Sweet. It looks like the process is pretty straightforward: wikitech:Portal:Toolforge/Quickstart. I'm available on IRC and elsewhere to help out if needed, whatever you're comfortable with. Once you have a Toolforge account, we can get you added to the "dbreps" shared account at least. Querying SQL directly is pretty easy, as is running basic scripts.
Depending on what you want to do, we can also get you set up with a personal "shared" account. There are some silly restrictions these days about personal non-shared accounts, namely that you can't run automated processes under them, so I have an "mzmcbride" shared account where I'm the only member and it runs some random processes such as the edit count report. It might be for the best if I moved those scripts to the "dbreps" shared account anyway tho, we'll figure it out. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:11, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Pages with lower-case short description

A tag has been placed on Category:Pages with lower-case short description indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz 05:40, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Oops! I had forgotten to put {{possibly empty category}} on the page. I have reverted the above edit, which is probably contrary to process, since I created the page (holding out wrist to be slapped). Small trouts welcome. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:02, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Second revert of my edit

Hi! You are right, I have been too reckless in making these mass edits without using Preview, and I'll be more careful in the future. Regards, Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 16:31, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. It's pretty easy to use Preview, which would have made each of those errant edits easy to spot. We all make mistakes; the trick is to learn from them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:33, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Danbury, Connecticut: Link Revert

Hello. I recently linked two neighborhoods, which are listed in the Danbury, Connecticut infobox. You have since reverted these links despite the neighborhoods having their own articles. Can you please explain the logic behind this revert? Thank you. CLJ (talk). 21:53, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

I reverted because your edits broke the diagram at "Places adjacent to Danbury, Connecticut" (look at how it renders after your edits compared to the reverted version). I have no objection to the other edits, as long as they do not break anything. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:51, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks

Template:Montreal Metro stations

When you deleted {{Montreal Metro stations}} you left redlinks behind. Please fix. Useddenim (talk) 18:07, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Jonesey95,
This was me, not you, and I believe the problem has been fixed once I found the mention on a template documentation page and removed it. You made the nomination back on Feb. 7th. I was new to closing deletion discussions, especially at TFD, and now I know that even if the nomination says "No transclusions" to double-check to make sure. No worries. Liz 22:59, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Long line and another one

Hey Jonesey95 : please have a look at Template:Herpestoidea clade. The same editor created this for use on just a SINGLE page, where I replaced it. It will not be needed on any other page. So I think it is redundant. And you? – BhagyaMani (talk) 14:41, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

See TFD. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:58, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Deleted Templates

RE: Template:Long line

Why do templates need to be present to have references to them removed?

It makes them easier to subst, for one thing. Also see WP:REDNOT. Also, please sign your comments on talk pages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:25, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
I have restored Template:Long_line so you can do the substitute. Let me know when your done and I will drop it again. Jeepday (talk) 15:43, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Respectfully, you are the TFD closer and should be following the instructions. The consensus was clearly deletion with substitution. Instructions are here. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:55, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Also respectfully, I deleted it speedy G7, The OP does not seem to care about Substitution, You asked for "please undelete and let someone else process this template correctly". Jeepday (talk) 17:09, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Why are you restoring email addresses in citation templates?

Refill and Reflinks sometimes capture email addresses and put them in the authorship lines of these templates. The IPs taking them out are correct. Why are you restoring them? – Muboshgu (talk) 19:02, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

This disruptive and now blocked IP replaced a bunch of e-mail addresses with |last=By and |last=-, which is invalid and much more difficult to detect than e-mail addresses. I reverted only the edits that contained these two invalid values, as far as I know. Where the editor chose to remove the address or replace it with a valid value, I left the edit intact. It took me a couple of hours to inspect and revert their many hundreds of edits; actually fixing them would have taken at least twice as long. It's a dilemma, and I chose the course that seemed the least bad. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:20, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
What a pain in the ass. Thanks for the explanation. That's many templates that will need to be gone through, probably manually. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:22, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes to both. The IP editor did go through the templates and modify them, but unfortunately, despite advice from multiple editors, they made some bad choices. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:37, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Map to be updated

Hi Jonesey95. Thank you for your contributions to article Blue Line (Chennai Metro). This line was originally from Chennai Airport in the south side to Washermanpet in the north side but later extended on the north side to Wimco Nagar Depot further north. But the map in the article isn't updated to reflect this (currently it only shows the line up to Washermanpet). I have no idea how to do this. So just thought of bringing this to your attention. Any idea how to do this? It'd be great if you could help with updating the map. Thank you. Rasnaboy (talk) 06:32, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Just noticed the same issue in Green Line (Chennai Metro) article, too. Rasnaboy (talk) 06:36, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
The route is shown in the infobox and in the list of stations. I recommend deleting the map images, which show the same information, as redundant. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:59, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Istanbul mass transit

I hope I didn't screw up anything you were working on, but I expanded Module:Adjacent stations/Istanbul Metro and replaced calls to Module:Adjacent stations/Istanbul mass transit with the Metro module where applicable. that leaves only one place where "Istanbul mass transit" is being used. I think we can just add the tram to the metro template, since the are both operated by Metro Istanbul? thanks for working on this! Frietjes (talk) 23:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for working on those, and your idea sounds fine to me. I have been able to figure out the basics of how Module:Adjacent stations works, but the nuances are still beyond me. My goal has been to start some of them (you can see them in my recent contributions over the past week or two) and do some conversions of rail colors and one or two S-line conversions to make sure they work, so that subsequent editors have a smaller hill to climb when they want to finish the work of making the old template set obsolete.
I also don't know the best way to change article infoboxes to make them stop using templates like {{M4 style}}. The documentation doesn't help me quite enough, and it doesn't link to enough examples. If you know how to do this and can provide a couple of diffs, I am pretty good at copying an existing workflow. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:38, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
for the styles, you do this the style is the name of the module and the style2 is the table key in the name format in the Module:Adjacent stations/Istanbul Metro. if there is only one name format, you don't need the table (see Module:Adjacent stations/Sydney Metro). you can also get more fancy and use string.format like Module:Adjacent stations/Manila LRT which also keeps the colors in sync. Frietjes (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the examples and links. I'll try that for the next one, or I'll go back to a previous one that I hadn't converted yet. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:27, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Template:Catholic Encyclopedia

Hi Jonesey95, found that this edit got rid of the cite error both on the template (sandbox) page and in the test cases. Of course anything could be subst. for the "1", such as "(title)" or something else. Still think it should be left alone to help educate novices; however, if your mileage varies, then I'm happy to go along with whatever you decide. Best to you! Problems searching for lint error patterns

When I try searching for lint error patterns using insource, I keep getting timeouts. I've read H:INSOURCE, so I know using regular expressions in insource searches are resource intensive. I've always been able get results from short patterns in the past, but now, even this (from user Mö1997's signature) is timing out:

<span style="color:#008f95;">'''Mö1997''' ()

Is this a time-of-day issue? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks. —Bruce1ee 07:18, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

I think at least one additional character needed to be escaped: this is overkill, but it works. – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:59, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I see what the problem is: the single quote marks also need to be escaped. I removed the escape from the equal sign and it still works. Thanks, for your help. —Bruce1ee 13:19, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Regarding Lumines: Puzzle Fusion

Would you say that the article meets FA criteria 1a at this point in time? If so, I can probably just cancel the request.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 15:22, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

I have no opinion on the FA criteria, having rarely participated in that space. I think I did a pretty good job with the copy edit; an FAC reviewer will no doubt find further small opportunities to improve the prose. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:22, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
I just have no confidence in my own edits when it comes to FAC so i have no idea what I possibly missed. But thanks for helping out on the article.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 20:36, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Adjacent stations module

Hello @Jonesey95 I created a module for Rapid Metro Gurgaon in Adjacent stations. I did not intend to create its testcase page though, can this be fixed? , and I think I updated all the other pages related to Rapid Metro to used the new template. Please review this page Module:Adjacent_stations/Rapid_Metro_Gurgaon and mark the succession templates for deletion. Thanks REEDriler (talk) 19:13, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

I have marked the module for speedy deletion and notified an admin. I looked at the before/after versions of some of the station articles, and they look good with the new module, so I have nominated the old templates for deletion. I am just learning this adjacent stations set of templates and modules myself, and I am finding it a little tricky. Nice work. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:35, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Also, please use edit summaries when you modify articles. Something simple like "update to use Template:Adjacent stations" would be very helpful when you modify articles about stations. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:48, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! 😄. Will take a note. – REEDriler (talk) 07:04, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Module:Adjacent stations/Berlin U-Bahn

I think per Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Icons it might be a good idea to keep the line name as text and use the SVG icons in the icon property (I realize this was not always done with S-line templates). Mackensen (talk) 21:53, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

I have no opinion on the matter. I just try to copy the existing format used by the articles so that editors don't get upset by formatting changes. In general, if a format does not conform to MOS, I support changing that format to match MOS. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:52, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
