May songs

May songs
This looks delicious. DanCherek (talk) 21:50, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
Another good one! DanCherek (talk) 21:52, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

I have the quirky DYK today, which is rare, and I don't quite know why music for peace was deemed quirky. - I took and picked the blue-and-yellow pic last year for May. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:06, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Well done! I don't know either, but in any case it's still a nice way to end the DYK set. The photo is really nice. (I would be remiss not to comment on the delectable Flammkuchen and Maultaschen. Learning German, one food at a time!) DanCherek (talk) 14:13, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
serious today, no food - Gidon Kremer played a Vorgabe (before the concert), a violin solo, Requiem (2014) by Igor Loboda, dedicated to the victims of the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, and the group played the usual encore, by a Ukrainian whose name I didn't understand. One of two Russians featured was present, he lives in Belgium. It was all a celebration of his 75th birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:09, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
What is a Vorgabe? DanCherek (talk) 21:26, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
I tried to explain: it's a play on the word "Zugabe" = encore, lit. "added gift". It was added before the official program, after two speeches, then Schubert, then two more speeches by students of the Kronberg Academy, then the rest of the program. Kremer wore a blue&yellow bow for the Vorgabe. - Will you nominate Melody for DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Already done: Template:Did you know nominations/Melody (Skoryk). Additional hooks welcome! DanCherek (talk) 21:45, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
I'd add the composer, or it looks like an Easter egg. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:52, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Good point... do you like one of these more than the others?
DanCherek (talk) 21:55, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
thank you, and approved already, and good choice! - two songs today: Hey Hey Rise Up! (written by friends) and Glauben können wie du, sung by the person I have on DYK today, right below the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:50, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
I saw the Johannes zu Eltz hook, and it's my favorite one in the set. That guy rocks, for speaking out on an issue that is deeply personal to me. DanCherek (talk) 11:35, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the encouragement! I was a bit hesitant, one thing saying this as almost the only thing about him, the other that he was more prominent for having been instrumental in the dismissal of the infamous Bishop of Limburg. But I didn't want to feed sensation only, and thought the one thing speaks volumes about him. Did you listen to his unpretentious singing? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:35, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Yep, he sounds great! And I'm glad the article has a good photo of him. DanCherek (talk) 12:38, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

We sang the song last Sunday, DYK? - today performances in Ukraine - for Ukraine - for peace, at the bottom an imaginary set of eight DYK - and more May pics--Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

today more pics, and should this woman have an article? - or only her sons? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:23, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the interesting biography! DanCherek (talk) 14:45, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
The violinist who played it for me is nominated for DYK, Aleksey Semenenko (meet here), and I'd like help with the hook wording - we performed an evensong yesterday, first after March 2020! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:37, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
It seems like the nomination has been approved since this message. DanCherek (talk) 12:31, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
yes, but not mine - it hurts but I better give up, or it will hurt more --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:14, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
my choir in Idstein performed an evensong (pictured), two years and two months after the last! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
How nice! I didn't know what an evensong was before yesterday, but looked it up when I saw this. DanCherek (talk) 20:54, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
a strong singing woman today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:48, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
My favorite opera! And a fabulous image in the image slot. Woohoo! Wish we had some recordings... DanCherek (talk) 21:47, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
thank you - today saw my pic of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra on the Main page - blue light for you --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:43, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi DanCherek. Thanks for noticing and helping me to gramatically correct the titles of Jagdalpur,Chhattisgarh, Municipal Corporation, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh,Municipal Corporation, and Bilaspur,Chhattisgarh, Municipal Corporation. These were wrong directed to the articles of respective towns. I was not aware how to correct them and hence had to name differently. I appreciate your help and guidance on this and will follow the same in future. Have a good day. Gardenkur (talk) 01:58, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Many thanks! Let me know if you have any questions about this in the future. DanCherek (talk) 02:02, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks again

- for your CE of the newsletter. If you're happy with it after comparing the original draft and my text (compare the diffs from the history page) I'll send it on behalf of the original author. I would very much appreciate it if you have a moment, if you could CE a couple of my recent new articles (they don't show in the feed unless you select 'Created by Kudpung' in the filters). I'm getting old and am no longer a very accurate typist and pianist (arthritis in my fingers).

BTW, keep up the good work - you might wish to consider running for adminship in the not too distant future - one of my creations is this advice page. Don't be put off by the apparent toxic nature of RfA, if you are confident and at least pass my RfA criteria you'll almost certainly be given the mop. You can also try your luck at the ORCP first. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:47, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

That filter in the feed doesn't work. The articles are: Burt Rhodes, DI Ray, Léa Bidaut, Paule Castaing. They are only short. Thanks if you can.Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:56, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Kudpung, thanks for the kind message. The newsletter looks good to me but I'll let you, MB, or another editor make the final call on that. Happy to give those articles a quick copyedit – will get on that shortly! DanCherek (talk) 03:02, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks 🙂 Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:07, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your copyedits. I liked to think I turn out some good stuff but it's amazing what happens when someone else takes a look! I'm beginning to forget a lot of what I learned about our MoS. It was once my dream to get this which I largely wrote myself (but was not the original creator) to FA before I start pushing up daisies, but can you imagine what a monster work it would be? One of its great contributors is sadly no more as are possibly some of the others. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Happy to help! Really well done on the Malvern article – that was a great read, and sorry to hear about Michael. DanCherek (talk) 12:25, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello DanCherek,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 823 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 848 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Misplaced Pages notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Misplaced Pages or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Amos Dresser

I got notices that you had sent me a letter, but I have not seen it and don't know where to find it. deisenbe (talk) 11:03, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

I haven't sent any new emails in the past month (see User talk:DanCherek/Archive 5#Amos Dresser for the one that I did send). DanCherek (talk) 12:20, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

The move request

I swear, the whole reason I made the request was because I had made an attempt, but I got an error message. I must’ve not changed it as completely as I thought I had in that first attempt--CreecregofLife (talk) 00:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Cool, glad it's handled and you were able to take care of it! DanCherek (talk) 01:13, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Fire and Sword

The article Fire and Sword you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Fire and Sword for issues which need to be addressed. Reverting move

Hi, i see you did a revert here. Your edit summary said that one user asked you to do it because there was an ongoing discussion.

In fact i started that discussione and the user who forwarded the request to you was the only one against it ( and the only one expressing himself until today) based on specious argument, first calling WP:COMMON and then backtracing it when results went against his personal preference. You can see it by yourself on the . In those days no other user partecipated in the discussion, so following WP policy and objective result on the popularity name i proceeded to make the move.

Over and over wikipedia policy reminds their users to give valid arguments over changes/edits and that discussions are not votes. Also not to go against wikipedia policy and to follow WP:COMMON when choosing the title of an article.

I suggest you to reconsider your decision now that you have a more clear grasp of the situation, or to elaborate further your rationales behind it, if i didn't fairly represent it in this message. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Opencross (talkcontribs) 17:05, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi Opencross! Thanks for the message. My move was essentially just correcting the word "Championsip" to "Championship" in the title. Since your initial move to 's-Hertogenbosch Open has been contested by another editor, and with limited participation at the WikiProject discussion, you should start a Requested Move discussion on the talk page by following the steps at WP:RSPM. A bot will then add a notification at the top of the page and at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves so that more editors can discuss the proposed move, and you can also notify WT:TENNIS of the discussion. After a week or so (sometimes more if productive discussion is ongoing), someone will close the discussion and evaluate whether there is consensus for the proposed move. DanCherek (talk) 17:23, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
I have done the RM before, i thought this move was uncontroversial given the WP policy i was following, i was just pre-informing the project as courtesy for all editors participating, given that the page is a current event.. But, fair enough, if someone likes to contest those policies i'll put up the RM as per similar cases. Thanks for your reply. Cheers. Opencross (talk) 17:28, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
An RM definitely seems like the way to go then. Thanks and good luck! DanCherek (talk) 17:30, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
