On 5 August 2022, Israel launched Operation Breaking Dawn against targets in Gaza. The operation began with the targeted killing of Tayseer Jabari, the military leader of Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine.
Background
Tensions have been high in the days prior to the operation after the arrest of Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank Bassem Saadi. Roads have been closed in the south of Israel by the Israeli-Gaza border wall and reinforcements were sent south after threats of attack from Gaza.
Civil defence
The Israeli Home Front Command warned civilians within a range of 80 kms from Gaza to prepare for rocket fire.
Operation
Israel began with the targeted killing of Tayseer Jabari, the military leader of Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine. Palestinian medical sources said several people arrived at hospital after Israeli raids. At least 10 more PIJ terrorists were killed in IDF strikes.
