In the science fiction series Stargate SG-1, Othala (Template:Milky Way Gate AddressTemplate:SGGlyph) is a fictional planet and former homeworld of the Asgard.

History

The planet, located in the galaxy of Ida, presumed to be the Asgard's home galaxy, was first visited by Jack O'Neill after he had the information from the Ancient Repository of Knowledge downloaded into his brain. When his mind succumbed to the Ancients' library, his subconscious mind carried out the necessary tasks to get him to Othala, where he could get help.

Othala possessed a Stargate, proving that the Ancients have visited the planet in the past. However, being located in another galaxy, dialing Othala from the Milky Way requires much power. Othala was the only Asgard planet known to have a Stargate.

Eventually, the planet was invaded by the Replicators , and the Asgard were forced to evacuate their civilization to a new world named Orilla.

An Asgard homeworld, possibly Othala, was threatened by the Replicators in 2000. Impressed by SG-1's primitive strategies to destroy the Beliskner after it had been infested with Replicators and menaced Earth, Thor asked the team for assistance. However, only Samantha Carter was available, who subsequently accompanied Thor to his homeworld.

Eventually, Carter managed to come up with an idea to lure away the approaching Replicator-controlled vessels by launching the prototype for the new O'Neill class battleship and then destroying it in hyperspace, taking the chasing ships with it. However, Thor suspected the Replicators would learn from this encounter, and could not be fooled again by the same strategy.
