On 26 September 2022, Artem Kazantsev entered School No. 88 in Izhevsk, Udmurtia in west-central Russia and opened fire with two pistols, killing 13 people and wounding at least 21 others. Officials state that those killed include seven pupils, two teachers, and two security guards. Kazantsev, who was wearing a balaclava and a T-shirt with a swastika at the time of the attack, subsequently committed suicide.

According to the Investigative Committee, the shooter was Artem Kazantsev, born in 1988, a native of Izhevsk, a graduate of this school. It was reported that he was wearing a T-shirt with Nazi symbols and a balaclava. The attacker was registered in a psycho-neurological dispensary.

Reactions

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin "deeply mourn" the deaths.
