Congratulations
Congratulations! Sorry for being late to the party, but I only just realised that the 'crat chat had concluded. 08:06, 24 September 2022 (UTC) Cordless Larry (talk) 08:06, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, and much appreciated. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:46, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Congratulations
now didn't you promise me home cooked dinner at some point on one of our pages? :) I hope all is well with you. Star Mississippi 23:00, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- I sure did. Let me know when you're in New England and I'll whip up some honey glazed garlic rabbit over herbed potatoes, all grown by my wife and me.
- Things are going pretty well. With all my fancy new buttons that I can accidentally press I figured I should reduce my phone editing, so I got a Chromebook. Should come in handy for writing too, as work seems to be getting much busier. I think mostly what I'm going to do with it though is play Baldur's Gate, or install dosbox and play old Wizardry games. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:13, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oooh yum. I had the chance for rabbit recently but ended up with venison and patatas bravas. Not sure I could have gone wrong with either. Forgot that's where you were. I should have waved as I drove from Vermont through MA and CT to NY earlier this summer. Next time. Glad all is well.
- I never got into a tablet, but that plan sounds fun. Still waiting for someone to mod the original Legend of Zelda for iPhone again.
- Give a yell if I can ever play show and tell with the new buttons. Star Mississippi 23:43, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- I think I've done each of the main actions I plan on taking, and haven't accidentally blocked a steward yet, so it seems I'm getting the hang of it. I have reached out quite a few times to other admins, so I'll add you to the support list.
- Hopefully I'll have some venison soon. Almost the season, and my spot has a lot of sign. I checked my camera recently, and there's at least three nice bucks hanging around, as well as a few does, one with a fawn. I spent a couple hours out there yesterday clearing brush and branches, so when I'm out for archery I don't miss because I hit a stray stick. With the amount of rabbit I raise, two deer will let me go a year without having to buy meat. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:51, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support list for anything except images. I'm still lost on those, which fittingly was an oppose or neutral on my RfA.
- I was trail running this weekend and had a couple deer friends. Their habitats are definitely changing. In the area where I was it's not just climate, but also roads being built/moved within their migration paths. I'd much rather them be dinner than road kill. Star Mississippi 02:00, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- The only image work I really do is marking copyvio over on Commons, so hopefully it doesn't come up.
- Along with the habitat changes, there's also the lack of predators. He's are growing to unhealthy levels and there's more disease spreading. Hunting is an important part of conservation. Not that I really help out with the conservation, because I never see any deer in season. This spring I was out for opening day of turkey, in the blind I use for deer as well as turkey, and two deer sauntered by. Didn't see anything in the 50+ hours I had spend out during deer season.
- I think they have calenders. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 09:22, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

Creative way to get votes: fake your own death
- See also: Very important news!
Stupid news! So, a funeral was held for the leader of the Cuban Federales and mayoral candidate, Osvaldo Pingafria. But he wasn't actually dead, rather, it was a 500 IQ election stunt, which is sure to bring in the votes (somehow). However, someone forgot to inform James Randel, who responded, uh, somewhat heatedly El_C 14:31, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks to these links and my wife watching YouTube on the Roku, which is linked to my account, I have very weird suggestions. GTA roleplay and Cambodian cooking. At least the ads are still targeted, somewhat. The ad for TikTok was wasted on me, but the second ad for a sale at tractor supply was reasonable. Unfortunately for them I'm fixed for feed, forage, and fencing right now.
- I finished that last series of books, solidly a C- effort by the author. Trope after trope, completely predictable, every good guy killed the bad guy they were set up against in the first book. The whole thing read like a 12 years old's d&d story after their parents let them watch game of thrones. I also refuse to believe that the main character's love interest has breath that "smells faintly of apples" after a month of forced marching and combat while eating hard tack and hunted meat.
- I just started some apocalyptic zombie series which is also pretty bad so far, but it's a box set so I get 54 hours of listening for the cost of one book. It's another series not notable enough for an article by another author not notable enough for an author. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:05, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, what apple series is this? Yeah, I've had YouTube Premium for like a year now and haven't looked back. But I'm unlikely to get the Twitch equivalent (Turbo or whatever the fuck it's called). I'm now half way through book 2 of the Green Rider series, First Rider's Call, and I'm still liking it a lot. It's taking me a while, but that's more due to being busy than lack of interest.
- BTW, in the acknowledgments, Kristen Britain thanked not Terry Goodkind who gave the first book such a glowing review (as mentioned, a major river in the world is called Terrygood), but rather, John Marco, the author of the last series of books I read. Small book world! I also found out that she used to be a Park Ranger, so that explains the magical green riders
- BTW BTW, while I appreciate DAW Books not being a conglomerate (though "In July 2022, DAW was acquired by Astra Publishing," its article says), holy smokes are their prints just for shit. Faded ink, un-bleached recycled paper, just the fuckin' worst. Oh well. El_C 15:33, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
- The last series was The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne, and the one I just started is Slow Burn by Bobby Adair. Sometimes I try books that I assume won't be good because it brings me back to my days as a kid buying and reading whatever was available at the flea market. The worst part about that was getting books from a series and never getting to read the other books.
- I never bothered with YouTube premium because I normally watch YouTube on a PC with an ad blocker. All the streaming my wife and I use are ad-free though. We pay extra for Hulu and all that, I have too many hobbies to spend time watching ads. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:00, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
- I only use PC, as well. Yeah, I did the ad-block thing on and off for many years (I think I created my YouTube account in 2009), but it was always a bit wonky and a pain to maintain, especially with certain extensions. YouTube Premium also has music options for YouTube's vast music library. And it isn't that expensive, so I've been pretty happy with what I get. El_C 16:09, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
Into the squeeze
Forgot to mention, new IH: Man in Cave (about Floyd Collins), which is always exciting as he posts even less frequently than Nexpo (see also spooky times at Wug's). Also, Incest Dragons is still great; Bored of the Rings still sucks, you know how it goes. El_C 15:07, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Caves are scary. I'm not claustrophobic, and I've spent a lot of time in small crawlspaces, but there's something about being underground that is scary as fuck. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:10, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Amazon spent a fortune on acquiring the rights to The Rings of Power and then no doubt spent another fortune on the production, culminating in a ponderous (boring is right!), more-is-better, badly acted (the actress playing Galadriel is dreadful), strangely political mess. As for crawl spaces, when I was a child, my father bought a fixer-upper to fix up himself with my older brother's and my help (my brother far more willing than I). When they put in baseboard heating, I was told to go under the house because I was the smallest, and I had to slither around while being told from above what to do. I was scared shitless (I was convinced the house was going to collapse), which left me traumatized for life. I don't think my father realized it at the time. Our current home has a very large "crawl space", but, unlike the fixer-upper, it's so high that one can walk upright in it, although occasionally ducking to avoid the duct work. Back to your regular channels.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:35, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's a super-scary situation, to be sure. Which is why I think the Ted the Caver creepypasta has gained so much traction over the years. IH has the rare talent, though, of presenting historical events that are, at times, highly disturbing, with diffusive humor that is genuinely funny, and yet does not detracts from the overall seriousness. El_C 16:31, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- As I've mentioned elsewhere, a key problem has to do with writers who have little to no writing experience, in general, and no respect for the lore, specifically. Those writers probably mirror the distorted view of the execs who hire them: for example, that a strong woman needs to be both a Mary Sue and interminably insufferable (that's because they, themselves, are like that, but see it as normal and good). Or that men (not of colour) should either be villains (actual or potential), incompetent, and/or simps. Contrast that with Incest Dragons, where, for example, women die from childbirth often, as was the case prior to modern medicine. Depicting that, one of the greatest struggles and hardships that women have faced through the ages, is infinitely more progressive than Bored of the Rings' superficial teenage-fanfic approach, not to mention immersive (i.e. realism, even with dragons).
- While I strongly disagree with the right-wing politics of The Critical Drinker, he posted a good overview of the series thus far yesterday that I think highlights a lot of these problems. BTW, pretty much the only ads I see are on Twitch, which had a 10-second ad for the series that looked really enticing. How gullible was I? Now whenever I see that ad, I cringe.
- I've had that fear, too, as a kid as well as an adult, of being in a tight space with enormous mass above me that I dread would collapse overtop of me, even though the chances of that approach zero. But the scariest, I find, is being stuck somewhere (deep) and no one knowing where you are. Luickly, it's something I've only experienced in dreams (which is to say, nightmares). - I just finished watching the entire 19-minute YouTube; thanks for that. Is TCD's voice/accent as irritating to Brits as it is to this American? Putting aside that and his obvious love of his own voice, it was indeed a great critique of the show. One of my favorite lines referring to Galadriel, something like "Is she ever going to learn more than one facial expression?"--Bbb23 (talk) 17:52, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Nice. Yeah, he has his moments. RE: accent — if I remember right, I think he's from Glasgow. El_C 18:01, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- If you remember correctly, he's actually easier to understand than most Scots. The irritating part isn't the accent as much as the cadence of his speech, which sounds a little like a Brit trying to imitate a Valley Girl (if you know what that sounds like).--Bbb23 (talk) 18:08, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- I do, but I never really picked up on that with him. Usually, when I watch something Scottish, like Trainspotting, etc., I need subtitles or I just can't understand half of it. But, indeed, that is not the case with TCD, who is relatively ease to understand. El_C 18:33, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

- My wife and I were having this discussion about Rings of Bezos and Dr. Who Breaks Bad last night. I don't mind over the top political messaging, bad writing, or being overly ponderous, but all three at once is pretty bad. My wife actually said she'd rather watch Wheel of Time again than The Elf Who Never Learns. After the recap of the last episode before the new episode started I mentioned that it was longer than a normal TV show, and even recapping the excitement from previous episodes was still boring. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:09, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

- El C, I'm not trying to ignore, but every time I try to pay attention there's a new TFA coming to the main page and it turns into a whole thing. I had to protect my talk page! That's unfortunate, with all the edit requests I answer.
Those zombie books I'm reading aren't good, but they're actually fairly entertaining. A couple interesting takes on the genre, like emergent behavior and flock behavior. Quote of the series so far, from some infected with zombieitis and waiting to die and turn and being told he might be the one in ten thousand that recovers, paraphrased from memory, "Sure, that might happen, and I might shit out a time machine and travel back to prom night and play with (generic female name)'s big tits!" The character who said that had been pretty straight laced up until that point, and I actually laughed out loud at it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:41, 15 October 2022 (UTC)- Oh. Nice? Well, my books are still good. Remember I mentioned how Kristen Britain thanked John Marco? Well, she now seems to be using part of his lore, specifically, the bygone Empire (and its emperor, Arkus) that's industrialized and who harness magic through science (they call it etheria). And there's time travel and shit, but astral; old enemies get resurrected, though not as zombieites, but as as powerful ske-letons. It's totally fun-in-the-black-sun! Advice regarding update to Australian alternative investment firm article
Dear User:ScottishFinnishRadish,
I’m LizziePEP, an employee of Pacific Equity Partners, an Australian alternative investment firm. You can find out a little more about me and my COI/paid editor status at my user page.
About four months ago, I submitted what I hope other editors will find to be an appropriate update to the Pacific Equity Partners article. It’s been some time since I submitted the request, and I have yet to receive a comprehensive review of the proposed changes.
I’ve been in touch with other notable Wiki editors with varying success, and have made some requested changes by editor User:DGG, including compiling a full revision of the article in my user space here: my user page
I notice you have had much to do with edit requests in the past, and would like to enquire whether you have the time to look over my submission and provide feedback?
Thanks very much. Lizzie PEP (talk) 01:16, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I very seldom look at COI edit requests, and recently my time has been limited, so it's unlikely that I'll have the time to review your proposals. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Dear @ScottishFinnishRadish, thank you for your reply. I understand, would there be an alternate editor of whom you are aware that you would recommend I reach out to? Thanks Lizzie PEP (talk) 23:08, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know anyone that handles COI edit requests. Your best bet is probably to open an edit request and wait on the queue. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:09, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Fùçk û. 2409:4071:2497:8394:0:0:237D:70A4 (talk) 17:17, 23 October 2022 (UTC) Hey :) Just a quick heads-up that you missed a rev from your revdel on Maddy Thorson - specifically the rev that's generated when you protected the page. I'm not sure if this was an accidental miss or if you didn't realise that it needed deleted too, so thought I'd give you a quick heads-up just in case it's the latter! stwalkerster (talk) 14:43, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

- Is there any way to append a reason to a revdel after the fact, or is it just stuck with the generic reason? — ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:01, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- There's no way to edit the log entries that are already there (much the same as edit summaries); you'd have to create new log entries by undeleting/redeleting. To be perfectly honest, I'd just leave it be at this point. stwalkerster (talk) 15:04, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

2022 Atlantic hurricane season
Hello, ScottishFinnishRadish,
It's still not exactly clear to me why you deleted this page but you have to be very careful when you take any action after a bad page move. Bots typically move all article redirects after a page move pretty quickly and if you delete a page with Twinkle, you can end up deleting a few (or a lot) of valid redirects that now point to the wrong page. When taking action after a bad page move of a popular page, if you are considering deleting either the bad title or the regular title, please check for redirects ("What links here") and either manually correct them to point to the right target or leave a redirect from the bad title to the correct title and the bots will get around to correcting these double redirects.
So, your page deletion ended up deleting a lot of valid redirects but Cryptic has restored them all now. But this is how you learn! I once mistakenly deleted all of the pages in a category...it's important when you make a mistake to set about fixing it once you realize that things didn't go as you planned. Thanks! Liz 00:34, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Liz, there was a request on discord, and a few admins started taking action all at the same time. I was under the impression that someone was handling the redirects after my deletion.
I even mentioned that I was going to have to fuck up deleting stuff or moving pages at some point, since it's a right of passage for admins to have to go to AN and request help fixing whatever they did with their tools.
I will certainly be more careful with that in the future. Sorry for the trouble. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:38, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Question
Is this what you were thinking when you remove an empty edit request? Special:Diff/1116460921 Terasail 18:06, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Terasail, yeah, that's what I had in mind. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:12, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Nice, it just has another Yes/No box once the delete button is pressed if you want to add a message to a talk page. First time I tried this so it took a while to get something going. Will probably add next week. Terasail 18:17, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Terasail, excellent. I look forward to trying it out. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:18, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Terasail, I was thinking on this, and if you're planning on having a dialog box after remove request is selected, perhaps instead of a yes/no dialog for an empty request, you offer a few template responses, e.g. the not a forum template. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:01, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah I have been thinking of better ways to do this but someone asked about another issue so I fixed that and decided to release it in its current form. I will update it in the future with a better design but I thought it would be better to release something rather than nothing. Terasail 17:00, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- I might add other template responses in the future but for now I will just stick with {{Empty edit request}}. Twinkle and such are better for other warnings and I can't really be bothered right now to detect such warnings (increase warning levels uw1-4 and such). On the other hand I changed how the warning is added, it isn't a yes/no dialogue box it is now a checkbox that appears when you click the trash icon. Terasail 18:09, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Terasail, I wouldn't bother with the escalated warnings, because it very seldom comes up. Not a forum removals are the most common after blank request removals, but they're still far less common, so the blank request template is good enough. Thanks! ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:40, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

On the other hand I changed how the warning is added, it isn't a yes/no dialogue box it is now a checkbox that appears when you click the trash icon. Terasail 18:09, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah I have been thinking of better ways to do this but someone asked about another issue so I fixed that and decided to release it in its current form. I will update it in the future with a better design but I thought it would be better to release something rather than nothing. Terasail 17:00, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Nice, it just has another Yes/No box once the delete button is pressed if you want to add a message to a talk page. First time I tried this so it took a while to get something going. Will probably add next week. Terasail 18:17, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

Magdalen Berns protection
Hello. You page-protected the biography on October 18. The "DumbBOT" removed the protection today. I reversed it, but it doesn't seem to have taken effect. (Thank you for the page protection after repeated vandalism by several IP-address only editors.) Pyxis Solitary (yak). L not Q. 02:48, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Pyxis Solitary, I only protected for two days, and the protection expired. The bot just removed the template. If the disruption starts back up let me know and I'll protect it for longer. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 09:13, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ah. I did not now it was only for two days. Thank you for your reply. Pyxis Solitary (yak). L not Q. 04:15, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Would you like to set up an alternative account?
ScottishFinnishRadish, now that you are an admin, you might want to consider setting up an alternative account for public networks, creating a committed identity, or setting up 2FA. This would help secure your account and make sure it doesn't get compromised. 2601:647:5800:4D2:35D3:BBB4:35B7:79E6 (talk) 23:06, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't edit on public computers or networks, and a committed identity isn't necessary as I have a unique email address for Misplaced Pages use with a unique password, as well as a second email address not linked to my Misplaced Pages account that Arbcom and oversighters are aware of, which also had a unique password. Lastly, when Misplaced Pages has a decent 2FA setup I'll likely use it. Until then I'll rely on a strong, unique password. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:53, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Actually, all of this editor's edits except the last one were constructive removal of vandalism. I think they just weren't paying attention when they reverted my further reversion. General Ization 02:01, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- General Ization, thanks for the heads-up on that. Unblocked and apologized. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 02:06, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- np, stuff happens. Thanks for protecting the article! General Ization 02:09, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
