The time has come

Kind words from nice people
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

It is time for me to step back from editing. It has been an extraordinary 16+ years. My thanks to everyone who has helped, shown kindness and shared so much during my time here. To you (as well as to those who will be happy to see me leave) I wish you well as you continue on with the Misplaced Pages experiment. I will probably pop back in from time to time but any posts made here will not get answered in a timely fashion. I also know that things may change down the road. Cheers to one and all and happy editing whenever possible :-) MarnetteD|Talk 21:17, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

In the immortal words of DA "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" mmmm fish :-P MarnetteD|Talk 21:31, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Starkiryu64, Floq, Bishonen, Martinevans123, Doug Weller, Doniago, DanCherek, David J Johnson, El_C and Johnuniq for your kind messages. It has been a privilege editing alongside each of you over the years. I'm finally getting a chance to see my stack of films released by the Criterion Collection and Kino Lorber :-) I am a sucker for their half price sales so my library had gotten kinda large. Best wishes to each of you! MarnetteD|Talk 23:38, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
You too, MarnetteD. You are the reason why my days are a little bit better. Have a jolly good retirment. Starkiryu64 (talk) 00:47, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Ponyo. I'm glad to have helped :-) Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 23:46, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
  • 16+ years of getting paid nothing but beans is quite impressive, not many will stay for that long :) May your retirement be stress-free and full of relaxation. Thank you for all you've done here. I've learned a lot from you. Sro23 (talk) 00:50, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Beans? You've been getting beans Sro23 :-) Were they coffee or pinto - heehee. Thanks for the compliment and for all you work here as well. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 21:52, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Oh, no! You have been one of my role models, MarnetteD. Sending you thank yous for everything I learned from your wisdom. Enjoy your retirement, may it be filled with beauty! Netherzone (talk) 02:29, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Netherzone. I had several nice editors who taught me how things worked in my time here so I am glad to have passed some of them on to you. I really appreciate your kind message. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:35, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

I've just seen this. I am sad to see you leave. Thank you for our wikiship, for a lack of a better word, and I wish you the best of luck with your life (: Callmemirela 🍁 15:35, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much Callmemirela. For the moment I still pop in once or twice a week and am delighted to see your message. Wikiship is a great word for the kind and good people like yourself that I've met over the years. Whether on wiki or in my dreams I am so fortunate to have shared time with you. Best wishes to you on wikiP and, even more so, in real life!! MarnetteD|Talk 17:42, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
You have a "retired" notice on this page, yet still continue to make edits. Does it mean you changed your mind and just forgot to take that down? If not and you plan on leaving, then farewell and I'll definitely miss you. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 04:12, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your note SNUGGUMS. Turns out I do drop in every couple days so I've updated my message. It is going to come to an end at some point though. Best regards!! MarnetteD|Talk 04:24, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
My pleasure, and I'm sure you'll make the most of your time here while it lasts. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 19:17, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

August songs

August songs

The last week brought more outstanding concerts and bike tours, - how is your summer? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:45, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Aside from being much too hot in July and early August it has been okay Gerda Arendt. My Santa Fe Opera trip was wonderful. Their production of Barber was the funnest that I have ever seen. Isabel Leonard's Carmen was stellar as well. I hope you have a nice week. MarnetteD|Talk 19:54, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
That sounds great. Did you know that Ser Amantio also went to the Santa Fe opera? - Today: another great tour on Debussy's 160th birthday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
+ the church where I heard VOCES8 and more discoveries --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:53, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for these links Gerda. I so appreciate the learning you have provided me over the years. If Ser had half as much fun as I did at the SFO then his trip was a good one :-) MarnetteD|Talk 23:16, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
thank you - I got two times "jealous" for the most recent edition (one for Bruckner, one for VOCES8), and really think I'm blessed by this festival that I helped a bit in the beginning. I should update the article ... but keep being busy with the single pieces and artists. - 10 double basses in the youth orchestra, that's so promising! I took another pic of them afterwards, all hugging, but found that too private for WP. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:09, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

September music

September songs

1 September: I remember the Vespro della Beata Vergine, 2 September: the last of the Rheingau Musik Festival concerts, and today we can read The Story of Mr Sommer, and follow Ruth Lapide. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:16, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Today's recommended reading: Opera in Ukraine (not by me) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:04, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda. Much appreciated. I heard this from Ukraine yesterday. I find it quite moving and have played it several times already. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 00:17, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
thank you for the music! - a rainbow today, and a deer yesterday (but hard to see) - Jubilate Deo --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:51, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
the rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto, and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:26, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
Beautiful on all counts Gerda. Many thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 14:55, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! - Today, we sang old music for two choirs at church, pictured, scroll to the image of the organ of the month of the Diocese of Limburg (my perspective), and if you have time, watch the video about it, including church from above --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
... and today I wrote an article about music premiered today, Like as the hart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:55, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
travel and strings sound --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:19, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
last images, - music to explore, a Ukrainian baritone first, and the new Casals Forum for chamber music is just wonderful. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:06, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for all of these Gerda, I hope you have a nice weekend! MarnetteD|Talk 15:48, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Charles in charge...

Hey there! Regarding this edit, which I myself had previously reverted, it's been brought to my attention that it's really just claiming that Fry is friends with Charles, who obviously is now king. As such, do you think we've reverted in error? Should we talk it to the article's Talk page? Do you feel we should let our version (Prince) stand? Hope you've bene doing well and are enjoying your mostly-retirement! DonIago (talk) 01:52, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi Doniago. I hope you are well. I think the past/present tenses in the section may need some changing. For me they became friends while Charles was still PoW and that was through the "Prince's Trust." Maybe it just needs to read "he became friends with King Charles while he was PoW" or some such. It's late here and my brain is a bit foggy so whatever you think best is fine by me. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 02:22, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
P.S. Your section header brings a grin. When I first read it I thought "Oh no - a question about I show that I never watched" :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 02:22, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
I'm glad you enjoyed my phrasing! I'm less glad you tossed the matter back to me. :p I'll think it over then. DonIago (talk) 02:27, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

So sorry

Dear Michael, I am so sorry to have missed your birthday. Almost two months late. (August 3) Trust you are well. All the best!
Gareth Griffith-Jones (talk) (contribs) 13:52, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Thank you so much Gareth! I was in Santa Fe having a marvelous time. I hope you are well!! MarnetteD|Talk 15:12, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

October music

October songs

Today is Erntedank in Germany, thanksgiving, and we celebrated our village's 650th anniversary, and had the dress rehearsal for Verdi's Requiem with an interesting band of marimba, piano, horn, bass, timpani and drum, - concert tomorrow, our national holiday. Seeing a pic I took on the Main page was also a nice harvest. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

A new month means a new pic and more links that I learn from. Yippee and thanks Gerda Arendt. MarnetteD|Talk 23:50, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
Our Verdi soloist were just wonderful! The tenor will get his article tomorrow, and should be easiest because he has already one in German. - I added pics of wines leaves turning golden, of today. I am thrilled that OREYA will visit, concert on 4 November.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:59, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
new day, another pictured DYK (but not pictured by me this time): look at power work tensions (if you translate) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:45, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
Lovely Gerda Arendt. As ever thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 18:32, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
... planned to include an ecumenical service in a circus tent on Sunday, with artistic and women's choral singing, a new piece by our Verdi conductor called MutSegen (CourageBlessing) and Rutter's Look at the world - for a Youth Circus Festival. I'll add the 3 pics of today now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:50, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
today's DYK: two facts from the two concert of this years Rheingau Musik Festival I liked best, both a cappella singing. If you follow the songs, you see the circus where I performed singing, and in the end the whole tent joined for Dona nobis pacem. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:27, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
ps: I forgot to mention that I saw that Zauberflöte, and Papageno was sung by another great baritone, - all roles have doubles, to give young singers a chance. Even Pamina was from the Opernstudio, and she was lovely --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:54, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
These are all marvelous Gerda Arendt. Many thanks. I'm finding that, as much as I cherish the performances that singers give us, their work (teaching, inspiring etc) with young people may be a more important legacy. Recently, I've been following Joyce DiDonato's work with her EDEN program. Here is one example. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 18:17, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, - next: who shall separate us? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:57, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
TFA Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen, BWV 56, - third time went well --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
Happy World Opera Day Gerda!! MarnetteD|Talk 14:43, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
that's cute! - spa wellness: last day of the cantata, and two great musicians who died --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:51, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
today a woman in red, cellist Ella van Poucke, with a video in the article: she sings with her cello --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:36, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
... followed by the new hall where she played - I always like to see my pics on the Main page, - then the mezzo of our Verdi concert, finally don't miss Hannah Pick-Goslar, - met a cat today, pictured --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Excellent excellent work Gerda Arendt. I always appreciate your sharing :-) MarnetteD|Talk 22:27, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

A new month means a new gorgeous pic and new learning. Yippee Gerda Arendt. MarnetteD|Talk 15:55, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
3 concerts in 3 days can now be found together: a Ukrainian chamber choir, my cellist and composer friend's 60th birthday music (with a world premiere and that overview about his career), and Bach's ultimate statement about life and death --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Wonderful Gerda Arendt! Isabel had her debut performance at La Scala Saturday night so it was quite a special weekend in Europe :-) MarnetteD|Talk 18:28, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
