The Wieambilla police shootings were the 2022 murders of Queensland Police officers, Constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow and a neighbour, Alan Dare, on 11 December 2022 at a rural property at Wieambilla, a locality in Queensland, Australia. The perpetrators, two men and a woman, were shot dead by Queensland police responding to the incident.
Incident
Queensland Police were asked by the New South Wales Police Force to conduct a check the Wieambilla property, owned by Gareth Train and his wife Stacey, as part of an ongoing missing person case. New South Wales police reported that Gareth's brother Nathaniel Train, the former principal of Walgett Community College Primary School and Yorkeys Knob State School, had not made contact for several days, and concerns about his safety and wellbeing were raised which required police to visit his last known location and perform a welfare check.
Investigating reports of a missing person, four police officers attended a rural property at Wieambilla, a rural locality 270 kilometres (170 mi) north west of the state capital, Brisbane. On arrival, armed offenders shot the police in what was described as an ambush. Arnold and McCrow were critically wounded and two other officers escaped to raise the alarm. A neighbour investigating the gunfire was also shot.
Later that evening, Queensland Police raided the property and fatally shot two men and a woman believed to be the perpetrators.
