Rizo Rizov (Macedonian : Ризо Ризов) was a Macedonian revolutionary from Veles and a participant in the Macedonian revolutionary movement who fought for the liberation of Macedonia. Member and head of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization, one of the founders of the Peoples Federative Party and IMRO (United) As with many other IMRO members of the time
Biography
Rizov was a teacher in his hometown. He was a member of the district committee of the IMRO in Veles, and in 1904 he was shot by the rivaling members of the Supreme Macedonian Committee.
In 1912, during the Balkan wars, he and other Macedonian revolutionaries (such as Petar Poparsov and Alekso Martulkov) met with Dimitrija Cupovski's who proposed to send a delegation to London, which would demand autonomy for Macedonia, but this idea failed.
But despite the insistence of Dimitrija Cupovski, Petar Pop Arsov, Rizo Rizov, the Macedonians' activities were prevented. Rizo Rizov again went to Thessaloniki to act among supporters of Macedonia's autonomy before the Peace Conference in London, but there he was met with sharp reactions from the Bulgarian emissaries that "tongues would be cut and heads would fall for the word autonomy"
When Rizo Rizov went back to Veles to inform Chupovski and Poparsov, they were no longer there because of the warrant issued for them.
On March 9th 1919, while in Sofia he signed the "Appel to the Macedonian Population in Bulgaria and to the emigre population in Bulgaria"
So, in 1925, these Macedonian intellectuals (one of them being Rizo Rizov) still held a general Macedonian conference in Viena at which a proxy was requested so that the Macedonian colony could represent the national interests in front of Europe.
At the end of 1926, due to illness, he left Vienna and went to the Soviet Union. In 1945 he returned to Macedonia. He died in 1956.
