Gerald Butler is a Scottish actor.
He was born Gerald James Butler on November 13, 1969 in Glasgow. The youngest of three children, he spent the first few years of his life in Toronto before returning to Paisley, Scotland after his father left the family.
He studied law at Glasgow University, where he served as President of the school's Law Society, and worked as a solicitor after graduation, but decided to quit his job in order to study acting. While in school, he sang with a rock band called Speed.
Among Butler's film credits are Mrs. Brown, Dracula 2000, Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life, Timeline, and The Phantom of the Opera, in which he sings the title role. Upcoming roles include Dear Frankie (released in the UK) and Beowulf & Grendel.
He currently makes his home in London.
