Abrar Athar is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter. He is known for Life in Other Words (2017), Koli 2.0 (2018) and Ei Muhurte (2022). He also makes web series and TV commercials.
Early life
Abrar Athar was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received his primary education at Sunbeams School in Dhaka and Assam Valley School in India. He graduated from North South University with a degree in Business Administration. He started his career as a copywriter at Grey Advertising Bangladesh, where he worked on several campaigns for local and international brands.
Career
He is the founder of Medium Rare and Little Big Films, a boutique creative agency and film production company in Bangladesh.
Abrar Athar made his debut as a director with Life in Other Words, a short film that explores the lives of three people who work as signboard painters in Dhaka. The film was selected for several international film festivals, including the Dhaka International Film Festival, the Kolkata International Film Festival, the Jaipur International Film Festival, and the Seattle South Asian Film Festival. The film also won four awards at the Bioscope Global Film Festival in 2018.
Abrar Athar's next project was Koli 2.0, a web series that follows the adventures of a young woman who becomes a hacker to expose corruption and injustice in society. The series was released on Chorki, a Bangladeshi video-on-demand platform, in 2018. The series starred Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Nawaf Nasser, Baizid Haque Joarder, and Irfan Sajjad.
