Janad Region or Iqlim Al-Jund is one of the six regions of Yemen expected to be activated in the upcoming constitution, to become a federal autonomous region in southwestern Yemen. The region of consists of two governorates, Taiz and Ibb, with Taiz being its capital.

Name

The region was named Al-Jund based on the historical significance gained by the renowned Jund Mosque, which was built by the esteemed companion Ma'adh bin Jabal in the sixth year after the Hijrah, when the Messenger Muhammad sent him to invite the Yemenis to Islam.

Languages and dialects

Iqlim Al-Jund includes both Taiz Governorate, the capital of the region, and Ibb Governorate, which are intertwined in terms of customs, traditions, and dialects. They share the same dialect with the exception of the northern regions of Ibb Governorate, where the dialect of those areas is closer to the dialect of Azal region.
