Yes, they should. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Holocaust Encyclopedia, "Famine spread (in Iran) and many people died." And yet, the current article contains nothing on Iran. A search of the article's history shows that a previous version gave the death toll at 3-4 million. In an apparent act of vandalism, it had been deleted and no alternative figures put in its place. It seems to me that given that 6 million died in the Ukranian famine of the 1930s, 3-4 million deaths in World War 2 Iran is not unreasonable. Moreover, a recent article in the June 2023 issue of ''Third World Quarterly'' states 8-10 million Iranians died in the 1917-1919 famine. For the sake of completeness and accuracy, Iranian casualties in WWII need to be included in the article. ] (]) — Preceding ] comment added 07:00, 30 August 2023 (UTC) Yes, they should. Luxembourg's numbers are wrong

hi, the numbers of luxembourgish casualties are a little wrong. As often described in multiple books, the percentage of casualties compared to the total 1939 population of luxembourg is around 2%, making it the highest loss suffered by a country in western europe. this is mainly due to the battle of the bulge ravaging half of the country. Anyway i have the following numbers out of this book: Michel Pauly : Geschichte Luxemburgs , 2013, ISBN-978-3-406-62225-0 p.102:

2848 dead luxembourgers forcefully serving in the german Wehrmacht
2048 dead civilians due to military actions (mainly Battle of the Bulge)
1208 dead deported luxembourgish jews (in concentration camps)
791 dead deported luxembourghish political prisoners (in concentration camps)
154 dead luxembourgish civilians who were forcefully resettled in the east
57 dead luxembourgers due to military actions serving in various allied forced
7106 total casualties -> which brings it to 2,45% of the total prewar population of luxembourg, like described in many books: highest perecentage loss of any western-european country.

This information is in my opinion very important, because the very high death-toll luxembourg had to endure during WWII made the allies recognize Luxembourg's important contribution to the allied war effort and with it Luxembourg's independence was never questioned again. (like after WWI when Belgium and France questionned the commitment of luxembourg to the Entente cause.)

Can somebody please put this right ?

Thank you very much Letzebuergerr

Update citations

hi, citation #11's link is actually http://necrometrics.com/20c5m.htm instead of the one that's currently on the article. the website switched domains and I would like to see an edit reflecting that.

War crimes of the Soviet Union

Why is there no section "War crimes of the Soviet Union"? What about the Katyn massacre, for example? Is the fact that the Soviet Union was part of the Allies of World War II reason enough not to call Soviet mass killings war crimes? 2A02:8071:B86:8060:90FA:3407:6869:44D (talk) 11:50, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

The Katyn massacre and other war crimes of the SU are all mentioned in the "Oppression in the Soviet Union" section. Nakonana (talk) 13:44, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

Iran

Why isn't Iran in the chart or anywhere on the list considering the forced famine by the British(mostly) and Russians? Iranazad17 (talk) 18:02, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

I don't have any arguments against adding it to the list, other famines are also included. It might be just a matter of unawareness that there was a famine in Iran.
But after reading the wiki article on the famine, I'm not sure that the famine can be called "forced". What would make it a "forced" famine? Who forced the famine on Iran, and what kind of force was used? There was a bad harvest in 1942. That's not "forced". One could argue that others (like the US) didn't help Iran, but it's not like humanitarian help is mandated by law, countries are not obligated to help. The wiki article says that the British tried to help "but failed to do so". This doesn't sound like they didn't help on purpose (although some seem to suspect that there was some calculation involved). The population of the Soviet Union was also starving, so their reason to not help also doesn't sound like coming from bad faith. Nakonana (talk) 14:20, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Perhaps forced is a bad word, and "history will be written by the victors" is why there is unawareness. The british "invaded" iran when there was no real need to invade. The British seized most of the trucks and food in the country to feed their own troops, and Russian troops. In WWI there was a similar situation. This book is about what happened in WWI
https://www.amazon.com/Great-Famine-Genocide-Persia-1917-1919/dp/0761826335
This book has details on WWII famine. I know there's wikipedia pages for the famine but info is scarce. It should at least be added to the list.
https://rowman.com/ISBN/9780761867388/Iran-Under-Allied-Occupation-In-World-War-II-The-Bridge-to-Victory-and-A-Land-of-Famine
They don't want people to know, why there's an islamic republic that is anti western. So that they can do what they want with Iran and their oil, etc. So they can justify gassing Iran in 80's and perhaps nuking Iran in the future. Ameshkin (talk) 16:43, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Iranian famine

Should the Iranian_famine_of_1942–1943 be included in these numbers? Gooseneck41 (talk) 16:30, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Moreover, a recent article in the June 2023 issue of Third World Quarterly states 8-10 million Iranians died in the 1917-1919 famine. For the sake of completeness and accuracy, Iranian casualties in WWII need to be included in the article. Benjamin1883 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 07:00, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Iran was included a long time in the list, why it was deleted? In the fights in 1941 Iran had losses and the deaths in the famine in WW2. KnowledgeIsPower (talk) 21:59, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

Regarding french civilian casuatlies change "60,000 killed in allied (mainly American) bombardments" to "70,000 killed in allied (mainly American) bombardments" since the actual figure of 68,778 which is already a minimum estimate is closer to 70.000 than to 60.000. 109.218.193.55 (talk) 20:07, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Not done:. The citation for that note gives the number of French civilians killed as 60,000. If you have a reliable source that gives a higher figure, please provide it. Xan747 (talk) 01:12, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
