A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. Within contentious topics, editors should edit <strong>carefully</strong> and <strong>constructively</strong>, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

*comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
*refrain from gaming the system.

Welcome!

Hello, Hanjaf1, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Draft:Shred Nations, may not conform to some of Misplaced Pages's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Shred Nations

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Shred Nations requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Shred_Nations AfD was three years ago, but there doesn't look to be anything that's happened in the past three years to make this company notable. article itself is borderline G11 as well. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Misplaced Pages and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Hanjaf1! Your additions to Draft:Tobias Adrian have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Misplaced Pages, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Misplaced Pages, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Misplaced Pages. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Misplaced Pages articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Misplaced Pages project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 16:50, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Darren Grimes

Information icon Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Misplaced Pages about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Darren Grimes. Thank you. IffyChat -- 09:15, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

@Iffy: In my view the online criticism of Grimes is notable, as it has been referred to by Grimes and others in the media, but I do agree that the sources were inadequate.Hanjaf1 (talk) 19:36, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Tobias Adrian (July 16)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Calliopejen1 was: This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Misplaced Pages article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:03, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Ways to improve Tobias Adrian

Hello, Hanjaf1,

Thank you for creating Tobias Adrian.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

The article Adrian Tobias has too high a proportion of primary sources and connected sources. Please avoid adding more, instead add sources that are independent of the subject and his employer.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|SmokeyJoe}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Image without license

Unspecified source/license for File:TobiasAdrian.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:TobiasAdrian.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Misplaced Pages can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot 14:00, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Tobias Adrian's Photo

Hey, for future reference, you should follow the Commons:OTRS#If_you_are_NOT_the_copyright_holder process for photos you do not own. I am specifically referring to File:TobiasAdrian.jpg. You'll want to upload it to Commons and follow the OTRS process there. Otherwise there's a good chance it could get removed. --Elephanthunter (talk) 17:09, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

@Elephanthunter: Thanks. I have found this procedure difficult to navigate. Hanjaf1 (talk) 17:28, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

On 2 September 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tobias Adrian, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Misplaced Pages

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Misplaced Pages). I would like to better understand Misplaced Pages's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Misplaced Pages. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Misplaced Pages's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Misplaced Pages user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Misplaced Pages email this user function).

The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

Categories

Hello, Nangaf,

Please do not empty categories "out of process". This is considered disruptive editing. If you believe a category should be renamed, merged or deleted, make a proposal at Categories for Discussion. All of the information you need is on that page about how to go about doing this. Category renames need to be discussed so please nominate categories, do not empty them. Thank you. GMO and pesticide topics

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in genetically modified organisms, commercially produced agricultural chemicals and the companies that produce them, broadly construed. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

In addition to the discretionary sanctions described above the Arbitration Committee has also imposed a restriction which states that you cannot make more than one revert on the same page in the same 24 hour period on all pages relating to genetically modified organisms, agricultural biotechnology, or agricultural chemicals, broadly construed and subject to certain exemptions.

KoA (talk) 20:38, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

As the template message says, this isn't to indicate wrong-doing, but this is just to give you a heads up that the GMO topic has additional restrictions. One of those is 1RR listed above where technically you shouldn't have made this change after your first set of reverts. I forgot to count the reverts too initially while working on tweaks, so not a big deal this time, but just something to be aware of since you weren't aware of it. More on the article talk page, but in short, feel free to bring up potential edits there to help clarify the content. It definitely gets clunky in places, but that also has to do with MEDRS sourcing I mentioned earlier. KoA (talk) 20:43, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Abingdon School

I have proposed deletion of the article Abingdon School controversies. The article is clearly not notable and contains just media trash stories. I have also removed the content from the Abingdon School page, adding isolated negative incidents are not noteworthy on a Misplaced Pages article page covering centuries. You would not add the hundreds of positive pupil achievements recorded in the press for the same reason. If you disagree post a comment on the talk page and a consensus can be reached as per Misplaced Pages policy. Thanks Racingmanager (talk) 12:22, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Notwithstanding your opinion that these facts are "trash", they are all sufficiently noteworthy to have been published in the national and international press. I note that a similar page exists for another independent school in England, namely Eton College controversies. This suggests that such subject matter is appropriate for this encyclopaedia. Accordingly, I believe that a link to the Abingdon School controversies is appropriate. Nangaf (talk) 23:32, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

1995 University of Maryland conference on crime and genetics was not a sociology controversy, that's an interpretation

Nothing in the article mentions sociology. Scientific controversies was correct. Doug Weller talk 17:30, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: Whatever. It's clearly sociology, but it's a small change. Nangaf (talk) 23:24, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Academic fraud by country

A tag has been placed on Category:Academic fraud by country indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz 06:02, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

TSventon (talk) 09:57, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Abingdon School

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

I see the above is unsigned and undated, and looking at the recent page history it strikes me as over the top, in all the circumstances. Anyway, I have just added quite a few {{cn}} tags at Abingdon School, as the referencing of much of the article is almost non-existent, and I wonder if you can find time to add the references before people start deleting that material, Nangaf? Kind regards, Moonraker (talk) 11:13, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
@Moonraker: Thanks for the heads up, I'll take a look. Nangaf (talk) 19:19, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Samantha Quan moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Samantha Quan, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Misplaced Pages). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Misplaced Pages's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Curtis N. Ofori

Hello, Nangaf, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. I edit here too, under the username Sdkb, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Curtis N. Ofori, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Curtis N. Ofori.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sdkb}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Americans of Ghanaian descent

A tag has been placed on Category:Americans of Ghanaian descent indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

Liz 01:07, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

You have recently edited a page related to ', a topic designated as contentious'. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Misplaced Pages’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Misplaced Pages administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Misplaced Pages;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. If you have questions, please contact me. Lourdes 06:57, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
