The '''Barai''' are a ‘’’BRAHMIN ‘’’Hindu caste found in Uttar Pradesh, India. The people of this community mainly uses "Chaurasia" as surname (or BARAI) This is to the effect that the first BARAI was a BRAHMAN , whom God detected in a flagrant case of lying to his brother and underperforming ritual. His sacred thread (JANEU)was confiscated and, being planted in the ground, grew up into the first betel vine, which he was set to tend. " because the thread was confesticated barai stopped performing rituals and went doing other activities like some of them became warriors and followed Kshatriya tradition ahead and some started business of various types in agriculture , The remaining people developed them as KAYASTHA brahmin and went into administrative roles. Various castes and gotra claim lineage from chaurishi, some of the surnames used are Modi, Jaiswal, Kashyap,Barai, Chaurasia, Rishi, brahmachari , chaurishi, Tiwari, somvanshi, nag, naga etc. This can be said that people of this caste have successfully settled themselves now within various varnas according to Indian caste system for example tambali a caste came out from larger BARAI caste is considered to be in vegetation of betel leave business across the country and various states. BARAI or CHAIRASIA have their ancestral lineage from the first (BRAHMIN) varna in varna system in Hindu society. THIS caste has a long brahminical lineage and there are several proven records to confirm it The book Brahman utpatti martand ( http://shashwatshukladatiabrahman.blogspot.com/2014/03/blog-post.html?m=1) which explains the brahminical lineage and all of its castes gotras , Chaurasia Brahmins are mentioned with their BRAHMINICAL ancestral Lineage. . They have several Brahmin gotras like shandilya, atri, Bharadwaj, Kashyap, Gautam, Gaud etc. The term Chaurasia signifies 84 , which states this clan has 84 different gotras involved. Some castes of this claim Kshatriya varna as well. | |||
