Bisan Owda (born 1997/1998) is a Palestinian filmmaker and citizen journalist.

Activism

Owda has worked with the United Nations on gender equality, as a member of UN Women’s Youth Gender Innovation Agora Forum. Owda has also worked with the European Union on climate change, and is an EU Goodwill Ambassador.

Owda has produced a show, Hakawatia, which is aired by Roya TV.

Online presence

As of October 15, Owda had accumulated over 180,000 followers on Instagram.

Owda's videos on life during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war have been shared by ABC News, Al Jazeera, the BBC, and Le Monde.

On November 2, 2023, the Jerusalem Post claimed Owda was a member of Hamas' propaganda team, pointing to the traction her posts have received from "well-known figures associated with antisemitism and conspiracy theories, including Shaun King". They also cited an Instagram post Owda made on October 7, in which she said "For every action, there is a reaction. This means: What was expected after 75 years of occupation and 17 years of siege?" in reference to the Hamas attacks that day, to her reporting that Israeli forces bombed the Al-Ahli Hospital, and to her reporting "that Israel was killing people who fled to the south". The claim that Owda is associated with Hamas has not been claimed by any other major news media as of November 6.

Personal life

After the IDF told Gaza residents to evacuate, Owda and her parents relocated from Beit Hanoun to Al-Shifa Hospital. Her family's home and her office in Rimal were both bombed, destroying all of Owda's filming equipment.

Owda witnessed the Al-Shifa ambulance airstrike on November 3, 2023.
