Misinformation now enshrined on the WWW
Back in 2008 a now inactive editor asserted that this song was based on the 1881 tune, "The Spanish Cavalier." No source was cited for this misinfo. I'm not a musicologist (after the Blurred Lines travesty that's a badge of honor!), but after hearing the 1881 ditty, let me say that's an 'interesting' assertion. Because the misinfo was here at WP for 14 years, it's now repeated on several websites that borrow from WP. Removed material was a clear violation of WP:OR. Tapered (talk) 23:13, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
