Banner Template

I think someone should create a banner to place on talk pages. —MC Snowy (Talk | contribs) 18:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I was trying to work on it, but I took a break because there was too much to do. I'll probably get back to that sooner or later. --Nishkid64 23:54, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
There's this one: {{WP Tennis}}. The image isn't the best, though. Feel free to modify it. Badbilltucker 23:46, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
I created a better one {{WP-Tennis}} --K.Z 07:14, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Other topics

Why doesnt this project also focus on other topics such as equipment and various techniques in the game itself? An article that I was thinking of needing being done is Vibration Dampener.

Sounds like a good idea to me. --dantheox 04:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Misplaced Pages Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 19:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

2007 ATP Masters Series

This article on a future/upcoming tennis event is up for deletion. Feel free to give your opinion on this matter at this article's AfD entry. SportsAddicted | discuss 21:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

David Prinosil

I have a question about David Prinosil. He was born in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia, but he represented Germany. Does anyone know when he moved from Czechoslovakia to Germany? (This regarding List of nationality transfers in sport‎#Tennis.) Aecis 18:31, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Grand Slam match pages?

Kzrulzuall, are you serious about wanting to create a separate page for every Grand Slam match that has been played during the open era? Tennis expert 15:46, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

It wasn't my idea. Dantheox created the mini project and I just recorded it on the page. I made a mistake in saying every grand slam match, instead of draw. Sorry for the misunderstanding--K.Z 00:29, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Template:WP-Tennis

There is a problem with this template whenever it is inserted in the Martina Hingis discussion page. Try it and do a "show preview" (without saving the page) to see what I mean. Tennis expert 15:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Problem solved. Some guy left a inappropriate comment in the comment section, causing it to look weird --K.Z 00:32, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Push to finish open-era slam project

I'd like to upload the remaining men's grand slam singles draws in the next week. You can see which ones I've already completed at User:Dantheox/Progress. I don't recall the exact reasons I stopped when I did last time, but possible errors in the data had something to do with it. You can see possible errors listed User:Dantheox/SlamProgress. Last time I refrained from uploading slams pages when there was a mismatch.

I've had a change of heart on this since then. The "wiki way" has never been to get all the details exactly right the first time through. So I'd like to upload the remaining slams based on one of the sources (probably ATPTennis.com) and let the community pick them over.

I think the highest-priority pages are 1996 Australian Open - Men's Singles through 2005 US Open - Men's Singles. These pages already exist, but use an older format and are missing earlier rounds. After those are completed, I'll go back and pick up the older slams. Once that's done, we can start thinking about women's slams and amateur-era slams. --dantheox 07:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

... and done! All men's slams from 1989 and later should now have full draws. There are some issues with the 1984 and 1988 US Opens, but beyond that, there are relatively few barriers left. --dantheox 08:47, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Welcoming Template Made

Just made a welcoming template to welcome new members. Use {{subst:Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Tennis/Welcome|signed=~~~~}}. --K.Z 05:40, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Redesign

Anyone object to a redesign of the project page? It seems to be in a big mess... --KZ 09:59, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. See: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Serbia, I think this is nice look. We could make something similar :) --Göran Smith 13:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I've done the page in "Main page style". Does it looks alright? --KZ 06:06, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

It looks good, but all the 'edit' links point to sections on the page, not the actual sections of content. Are you going to put the Categories and Related Projects stuff in there too? --Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 05:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah..Im trying to fix that...I don't know what's going to happen with the categories and related projects. I'll let you guys decide.. --KZ 07:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Anyone object to placing the tennis categories into the Template Department? It seems to be untidy, in comparison with the rest of the page. --KZ 10:26, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Almost done with Open-Era Grand Slams

I put up a bunch more Australian Opens this afternoon, bringing the Open-Era Grand Slam Project very close to completion. You can see which ones are missing at User:Dantheox/Progress (look at the table on the right). Right now we've got men's draws for all but one tournament (1984 US Open) going back to 1976 and most of them before then. --dantheox 01:18, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Open-Era Slams Are Complete!

I've finished creating draws for all the Open-Era Men's Grand Slams! A complete list of links can be found at User:Dantheox/Progress or you can use Category:Tennis by year.

There are a few draws that I'm uncertain about. In particular:

and several other brackets (especially Australian opens) need byes. But those are minor points. All-in-all, this is complete!! --dantheox 01:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Navigation template

I'm not part of this project, but I thought I'd make a suggestion to make a general navigation template for tennis. Like these sports have templates that could be used for inspiration: Template:NFL, Template:NBA, Template:Professional Baseball, Category:Sports navigational boxes... and maybe it could include the major tournaments, the information from the See Also section from Tennis, etc. But anyway, this is just a suggestion. Cheers, oncamera 03:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

What should we add?

The project navbar is a little bit short. Any suggestions of what we should add to it? --KZ 08:28, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

2007 Australian Open - Doubles

I was hoping that someone would change the doubles draws for the 2007 Australian Open from 16-Bracket templates to 8-Bracket Templates. At the moment it looks like they are singles because the double teams are in seperate brackets. I tried, but it got a little compliicated and frustrating.

WTA Tour

What do you think about Infobox for WTA tournaments? --Göran Smith 20:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm what to create also for ATP, but first I need your input on this one? :) --Göran Smith 20:40, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Request Feedback on French Amateurs

I've put up a few French Amateur tournament/draw pages, based on the official PDFs available at the French Open site. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback, particularly on the article titles, what to do about byes, accent issues, flag issues, the Template:French Amateur tournaments template, etc. See 1925 French Amateur and 1967 French Amateur. --dantheox 07:17, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

It looks good, and consistent with the modern draws. Some of the flags need correcting (South Africa especially sticks out). Most can be fixed within the flagicon template. The calls can all be found in Category:Country data templates. I've gone ahead and corrected 1925 Men's. The titles look fine (and consistent with the modern ones). On the template, the "WWII"s look a little wonky, maybe replace them with greyed-out or just non-linked years. Looks like a good start. --Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 22:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. Is there any simple way of finding out what flag is appropriate to use for a country in a particular year? Did you have to develop some logic along those lines for your Davis cup work? --dantheox 23:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
No, I just looked at the various wiki articles to find out what was used when. I'm kind of a flag geek, so I didn't really mind ;). Category:Davis Cup team templates may be of some use. The number is the last year that flag was used (with very few exceptions). The Olympic articles are a good reference, too. As for what calls are used in the templates, I don't know where to look besides the category in my previous post.
The short answer is, no, there is no simple way :). --Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 00:25, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Davis Cup/Fed Cup project

First off, thanks to everyone who helped update the 2007 Davis Cup pages over the weekend. Secondly, I've been busy making pages for past DC years, and plan on doing the same with Fed Cup once I'm done. If people want to help out, there are plenty of associated pages to be worked on. Should I add a project sub-page to coordinate all this? --Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 22:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Go for it! A Davis/Fed Cup subproject would be completely appropriate. --dantheox 23:47, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

A page for every slam

Just a heads up on the Grand Slam project... there's now a page for every slam! See the sea of blue links at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject tennis/Grand Slam Project#Slams. Getting draws for all of those is an entirely different matter, unfortunately. If anyone's interested in helping with a sub-project, it'd be great to get succession boxes on all the Open-Era slams. I put them on the amateur-era tournaments (e.g. 1878 Wimbledon Championships), but they stop once you get to 1968 French Open. --dantheox 07:53, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Discuss

Standardize naming: "Wimbledon" vs. "Wimbledon Championships", "US Open" vs. "U.S. Open" and "French Open" vs. "Roland Garros"

Thought we should have a discussion regarding which name is more suitable before I use AWB to change all of them... --KZ 03:13, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
